Children, how time flies. Wasn't it just spring Dippemess? It really is that time again, the autumn Dippemess opens its gates and heralds the end of this year's folk festival season.
Two times a year, the fairground on Ratsweg hosts a particularly traditional funfair whose origins date back to the 12th century: The Frankfurt Dippemess. Originally conceived as a trade fair, the focus was shifted to entertainment in the middle of the 19th century. Since then, the Frankfurt Dippemess has been one of the most popular folk festivals in and around Hesse, attracting several hundred thousand visitors every year. In addition to many culinary stalls, which of course also offer specialties from Frankfurt, there are always the latest and craziest rides to marvel at at the Dippemess. But of course the tradition of the "Dippemarkt" (pottery market) has only shrunk considerably and has not completely disappeared and numerous stalls still offer a wide range of "Dippche". In the fall, the focus of the Dippemess is traditionally on the quieter, family-oriented rides such as the chain carousels or car scooters. But even those looking for an adrenaline kick will definitely get their money's worth with the wide range of attractions offered by the 112 traders and showmen. Ghost train, break dancer, wild water ride or Eclipse are good enough reasons to pay a visit to the Herbst-Dippemess.
Visitors who come by car will quickly run out of fun, as experience has shown that parking spaces are in short supply. It is therefore highly advisable to come by public transport, which makes the Dippemess all the more fun.
