Quatuor Ébène began its sensational string quartet career with its formation in 2000. The big breakthrough came in 2004 with sensational competition successes, including at the Munich ARD Competition, which were also immediately followed by an engagement to perform at the Museum Society's Chamber Concerts. In 2020, the Ébène Quartet will celebrate not only its 20th anniversary, but also the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth: for one year, the quartet will devote itself exclusively to the works of Ludwig van Beethoven and will tour worldwide with a complete string quartet cycle. Concert series are planned in Paris, Vienna, Munich, Hamburg, New York's Carnegie Hall - and Frankfurt's Alte Oper, as part of the Museum Society's concerts.
Support for this major anniversary cycle - as for many concerts of the Frankfurt Museums-Gesellschaft and all previous guest appearances of the Ébène Quartet since its Frankfurt debut in 2005 - is provided by the Gottfried Michelmann Foundation. With its generous commitment, the Foundation supports performances by young artists from other European countries and has thus made a significant contribution to the great success of the Quatuor Ébène in German concert life, which now culminates and culminates in the Beethoven cycle. Parallel to the concert series, a complete Beethoven recording by Quatuor Ébène will also be released on CD.
