Dance, Film and Music - Experiencing Jewish Life in Frankfurt

"Oy vey" I thought to myself as Sunday autumn burst in so blustery that I immediately felt like sofa, blanket and snuggled up watching movies. "Oy vey", is one of my favorite Yiddish expressions because it always makes me smile. Do you know such expressions that always put you in a good mood right away when you hear them?

The first time I heard "Oy vey" was in the American TV series "The Nanny" from the 90s. Who else remembers that mishmash of New York life, English and Jewish culture? And so today, for all lovers of Jewish culture, I have good news for your fall planning - the "Jewish Film Days" are coming up. These alternate with the Jewish Culture Weeks, but are not the only impressive Jewish cultural life Frankfurt has to offer, as you can read in my post <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de insidefrankfurt s shopping juedische-spuren-entdecken.html _blank>"Auf jüdischen Spuren durch die Stadt" .

This facet was one aspect that won me over as soon as I arrived in Frankfurt. After all, if I want to settle in somewhere, a person needs points of connection. J It is above all the Jewish humour, the comedy and esprit in films and literature that inspires me. I once flew to Vienna especially for a film exhibition in the Jewish Museum there. Are there any fans of the Marx Brothers, of Groucho Marx, among you? They are not one of the most successful English-speaking comedians for nothing. Or Billy Wilder? These artists have influenced and enriched me with their work.

New app: discover invisible places

So, inevitably, I set out on Jewish trails in Frankfurt. The "Museum Judengasse" at Börneplatz, which reopened some time ago, offers a convenient starting point. So the walls of the former Judengasse can be explored (also exciting for children, who can set up small houses like a doll's house). Standing inside the walls makes you really experience the narrowness of the conditions at that time. But the best thing is the interactive offer.

And of course, as a tracker, I like the <link https: www.juedischesmuseum.de erkunden detail unsichtbare-orte-frankfurt _blank>"App - Invisible Places": This leads users on a search for clues through Frankfurt. There is a lot to discover: stories about Jewish football clubs in Zeilsheim, Greek fur traders in the Bahnhofsviertel and Turkish restaurants in the Ostend.

"Invisible Places" shows where the memories of Jews intersect with the stories of the Greek, Spanish, Turkish and Italian communities, in which places their everyday lives took place and how the city became a "city of diversity" after 1945.

My big dream now would be to travel once again to the twin city of Tel Aviv with its famous white Bauhaus houses. And I wish for a quaint Jewish Café like I once discovered in Berlin. But for now, the completion of the Museum am Main is on the agenda - by the way: <link https: www.juedischesmuseum.de besuchen juedisches-museum _blank>the construction site can be visited. And if you are already in the mood for <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de _blank>Jewish concerts, music and Hasidic dances, we will inform you here on Frankfurt-Tipp about the latest news.
