Splashing, bubbling, flowing - Frankfurt hides countless fountains and streams with droll names or curious facts.

Fascination Fountains

I noticed that I hardly ever return home from a photo tour through the city without having photographed one of the numerous fountains in Frankfurt once again, which then also bubble forth curious or exciting facts (sorry, for the metaphor ;

It is clear that there is hardly anyone of us who is not attracted to water in one way or another. Would we be on the banks of the Main all the time otherwise? Would we even have always settled by the water in the past? Of course, there was a utilitarian reason for this. For me, water simply exerts a magical attraction because of its calming effect, its liveliness and coolness.

Modern water features and installations such as those at Rathenauplatz or Jürgen-Ponto-Platz are always a point of attraction, but were even more so than usual during the heat wave. Such water points are also under discussion when it comes to the <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de insidefrankfurt s shopping prima-klima-auf-dem-balkon-hochhaeuser-ade-hallo-erdhuegel.html _blank>city's approach to climate change.

Whoever goes on a discovery tour in Frankfurt can find countless other fountains beyond the well-known fountains and water features. For me, the most droll, curious or fascinating I want to share with you today:

· Droll I find the seal fountain, which actually served as a drinking water dispenser for schoolchildren. Today it is a listed building and is just planted. (Schäfergasse)

· The shell fountain - ornate. Book Lane.

· Castor and Pollux - in Unity Square. Tempting

· Luisenhof Fountain - hidden. Weidenbornstraße 40.

· New Bornheimer Fountain, commemorating the incorporation of Bornheim? Is that good now???? ;-). Berger Straße, Bornheim-Mitte.

· Fassnachtsbrunnen- Klaa Paris in Hedernheim says hello, at the latest at the next carnival in February! H.-P-Müller-Platz.

· A fountain in the NWZ - because a shopping center with rippling water is yet again so congenial!

· Countless fountains from Roman times for example in <link https: www.frankfurt.de sixcms _blank>Schwanheim and Heddernheim - quite a few have been buried and rediscovered in Frankfurt.

· The Schlossplatz fountain in Höchst is a traditional draw well and reminds me of the fairy tale of Frau Holle. Is one about to fall in?

· Oh, I have a big soft spot for the Triton Fountain in the Bologaro Garden: on the one hand, as an alumni of the University of California at San Diego, whose mascot is the Triton. And then because of the symbol of water in general: dolphin and Triton - the god of water!

· The fairy tale fountain at the Schauspielhaus, because I like art nouveau.

For example, I find the fountain at Merianplatz, which is supposed to cover the subway shaft, to be a great success. Countless more fountains are hiding in the city, not only the droll Tugend- and Faulbrunnen. But just take a look for yourselves..

Well, if you love fountains as much as I do, make a note in your calendar for the third weekend in August next year. That's when Sachsenhausen celebrates its 500-year-old fountain festival!

Bächlein und Stadtgewässer

But I've felt a bit like Columbus on a discovery tour ever since I discovered the <link https: www.frankfurt.de sixcms _blank>Water Guide of the City of Frankfurt. Just enter the desired district via filter and it spits out any ditches and streams. I use this function, if I have desire on a bicycle route, but no idea where it could go then. If I look at Bornheim, then the journey leads me to the so-called "Entengraben".

Alone the name makes already curious, or? The spring, as wells were called in former times, rises in Maintal and belongs with about eleven kilometers to the longer brooks of Frankfurt, which finally flows into the Main. It is funny that the little stream could not decide on a name ;-)

Anyway, above ground it shows up as Entengraben near Vilbeler Landstraße at Voltenseeweg, later it becomes Riedgraben again. It's a nice little gem behind the FSV stadium - I'm pleased with the city's plans to connect the little stream between Enkheimer Ried and Ostparkweiher in the future. Well, and who would have thought that the inhabitants of this area had to struggle with floods for years? Today many things are drained there...

Do you have a favourite fountain? And which waters do you still want to discover?
