Content: YouTube and similar Internet platforms prove again and again as an effective career springboard. Whether musicians or comedians, who can reach and inspire many people with his videos or music pieces on the Internet, which gets already times the possibility to be able to increase his audience also with live performances, CDs or DVDs. Buddy Ogün from Hamburg is also one of the artists who have become popular through YouTube. Since 2006, Ogün, who has so far successfully kept his true identity behind the art figure a secret, has been putting his videos on the Internet and, after millions of clicks, was able to get a contract with Sony Music Entertainment in 2009. Appearances on shows like TV Total, CDs, a first DVD, live programs and even small guest roles in TV movies have been on Buddy Ogün's busy schedule over the past few years, enabling him to steadily expand his fan base. And it is precisely this fan base that can now also enjoy his latest DVD Ich mach sie klar, was' los!
The concept of the DVD is a bit strange, but should work very well for fans. Basically, it's about Buddy going to a live performance with his manager Mozart (also Ogün). While the audience waits for their star, he flirts uninhibitedly backstage with the attractive Steffi (Henrike Fehrs), who he can't get out of his head even during his show. And so it comes again and again to interruptions, in which also Mozart and other popular characters of Buddy Ogün may prove their talent.
However, the performances are not really a live recording of Ogün's tour. That's because the audience also adheres strictly to a predetermined script, becoming part of this whimsical film/comedy/sketch/music video hybrid. Those who don't know Buddy Ogün's humor or can't really get along with his YouTube videos will quickly shake their heads in wonder or ask themselves annoyed what's supposed to be funny about the constant grimacing and the rather infantile gags. Because really profound is the artificial character Buddy Ogün, reminiscent of Erkan & Stefan and Tom Gerhardt's Voll normaaal not really. And subtlety can't exactly be imputed to the numerous characters the comedian and musician embodies here either. However, hidden under the sometimes quite raunchy or silly gags are also again and again really well observed and also surprisingly biting moments, where it is really hard not to laugh.
But overall, I'll make 'em clear, what' up! is clearly a DVD aimed at those viewers who are already fans of Buddy Ogün. Too often, the laughs come from the fact that viewers already know what lines or behavior to expect from which of the already familiar characters. The humor is just too special to generate many new fans. Therefore: absolutely recommendable for fans. But if you don't know Buddy Ogün and think you can laugh heartily about his humor, you should first watch some YouTube videos in smaller doses. If you feel really well entertained there, you can then confidently reach for this comedy DVD.
Picture + Sound: The sound is only available in a rather unspectacular stereo mix, which fulfills its primary task of transporting the sayings of Ogün, Mozart and the other characters well understandable from the speakers, but more than satisfactory. The DVD's picture pleases with its coherent colour scheme, but could definitely go the extra mile in terms of overall sharpness. For a comedy DVD, however, the whole thing is perfectly adequate. Good.
Extras: The bonus material offers the inclined viewer primarily musical. So there are four music videos of Mozart and one of Roughrider of Love vs. Kool Savas feat. Cengiz Khan. In addition, there is a montage of scenes from the main film, which are commented by Ogün. In addition, Mozart presents his video shooting diary for Ladyboy and Roughrider of Love offer insights into the life of a King and the most dangerous shoot of all time. A total of 45 minutes of additional material is offered, which Buddy Ogün fans are guaranteed to enjoy.
Conclusion: Buddy Ogün - I make them clear, what' going on! is the second DVD of YouTube phenomenon Buddy Ogün eagerly awaited by fans. Even if the humor is sometimes a little deeper and seems like a mixture of Erkan & Stefan and Tom Gerhardt, Ogün seems to hit the nerve of his audience. The steadily growing success speaks a very clear language. The idea of staging the whole thing as a mixture of (albeit staged) live show and the chaos that reigns behind the scenes in the meantime works quite well in most moments and is guaranteed to make fans laugh heartily in many scenes. If you don't know Buddy Ogün yet, however, you'd better check out some of his YouTube videos, which have been clicked on millions of times, first, because the humor is already very special. But if you like the typical Ogün humor, you will get your money's worth with this live DVD. Therefore also applies: for fans absolutely recommendable!
