Content: For over 20 years Dietmar Wischmeyer has been one of the best satirists in Germany. Whether as an author, as a co-founder of the legendary Frühstyxradio or with one of his numerous art figures, Wischmeyer always manages, usually vicious and politically completely incorrect, to show the Germans their oddities. His cult figures such as the little animal lover, the Arschkrampen or Willi Deutschmann have long been an integral part of the German comedy scene. But Wischmeyer is not the typical jokester of the ilk of Mario Barth or Ingo Appelt. His highly intelligent word games, in which intellectual formulations mix with the crudest gutter language to form a fascinating whole, make Wischmeyer's world view, marked by extreme openness, a pleasure of a very special kind. And now there is a double load of it on DVD!
The first DVD offers the complete live program German Heroes in the 130-minute directors cut. Whether one is a fan of the satirist himself, or rather of one of his many art figures, here comes now really everyone at his expense. But especially his remarks about the peculiarities of the Germans are sometimes hilarious - precisely because they come so damn close to the (sad) truth. Wischmeyer says what many think but would never say because of moral brakes. But Wischmeyer snowed these brakes off long ago. He mercilessly holds the mirror up to the German heroes, whether you like it or not. In doing so, he reveals right away that the time of the Germans is slowly coming to an end, which is often called demographic change. After he has made it clear that the German has fulfilled his mission on earth, it is time for a healthy life, which, as Wischmeyer makes clear in his own special way, can have very unhealthy consequences. A conversation in heaven about Nina Hagen, a visit to the Christmas market or a look at the hobbies of women are then also still on the program.
Enriched this Rundumschlag against the numerous whims of the Germans with guest appearances by popular figures such as the animal lover, the ass cramps, tractor driver Günther or Willi Deutschmann. The fact that Wischmeyer actually only sits at his desk the whole time and that the programme is more of a reading for long stretches is of little consequence. Because what the artist delivers here doesn't need a big show to work. All in all, the live DVD offers a great program in which Dietmar Wischmeyer passes on his misanthropic world view to the audience in an extremely funny, intelligent and sometimes painfully clear way. Surely the humor is already a bit special, but who appreciates Wischmeyer or one of his art figures, who gets here over two hours of bitterly wicked and very funny entertainment. Recommendable!
Picture + Sound: In a live program that comes up without big show effects and takes place only on a small stage, the audiovisual realization plays a rather subordinate role. The most important prerequisites, however, are met here perfectly: the picture is absolutely clean, has a high image sharpness and an authentic-looking color mixing. The sound lets both in the stereo, as well as in the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix the explanations Wischmeyer well understandable and powerful from the boxes sound. What more could you want? Good!
Extras: As a bonus there is still the complete live program of the SCHWARZWEISS tour on a bonus DVD. Recorded in November 2009, the show has a playing time of just under two hours and is in no way inferior to the current program in terms of wit and bite. When Wischmeyer, for example, particularly viciously about pensioners populating the car washes on Saturday, a particularly picturesque obituary to an old men's toilet recites, Willi Deutschmann in the Chinese restaurant sends or the little animal lover about the aphid lectures, no eye remains dry in the audience. Very good!
Conclusion: German Heroes is once again a great program in which Dietmar Wischmeyer passes on his misanthropic worldview to the audience in an extremely funny, intelligent and sometimes painfully clear way. His very special humour and his dry style may not be everyone's cup of tea. But if you like his previous programmes, his books or any of his numerous characters, you shouldn't miss this swan song for German heroes - especially as there's a complete bonus programme from 2009 on the second DVD. That's a total of over four hours of Wischmeyer - an absolute must for fans!
