Everest - A Yeti Aims High

Since the death of her father, the girl Yi has completely retreated into her own world. She works every spare minute to earn enough money to visit all the places she was supposed to travel to with her dad. In her little hideout on the roof of an apartment building in Shanghai, she dreams of the trip, until she discovers an uninvited visitor there: a small, frightened Yeti is hiding here from the henchmen of the heavily wealthy Burnish, who, with the help of zoologist Dr. Zara, wants to prove the existence of the Yeti at any cost. Together with her friends Jin and Peng, Yi sets out on a perilous journey to the Himalayas to return the Yeti Everest to his family.

The American-Chinese co-production Everest - A Yeti Aims High may not win any prizes for originality as far as the story is concerned. The course of the plot is very predictable and the characters are drawn in a rather stencil-like way - even the ones who suddenly reveal their true character in the course of the film. Again and again you feel reminded of other movies, from which some set pieces were borrowed all too obviously. And yet, what the animated film lacks in dramaturgical originality, it makes up for with a lot of humor, even more heart and a very imaginative visual realization.

When Everest unleashes its magical powers, it always makes for magical moments that are truly wonderful to watch thanks to the work of the animation team. Director Jill Culton, who also wrote the screenplay, doesn't just rely on such visually stunning fantasy elements, however, but also takes time for quieter moments where the charm of this family film can fully unfold. For example, the fact that Yi's violin playing and her very special relationship to her instrument is allowed to play an important role in the story, gives the film a very unique character despite many familiar elements, which further supports the already positive overall impression.

In addition, of course, there is the fact that you just have to like the cuddly Yeti Everest, but also Yi and her friends. You quickly take these characters to your heart, which makes the film very effective on an emotional level, especially towards the end. Everest - Ein Yeti will hoch hinaus (Everest - A Yeti Wants to Go High) is an exciting but also very funny animated adventure for children aged 6 and up, but adults can also have a lot of fun with it. A film that entertains the whole family and really gets to the heart. If you like animated movies like Dragon Taming Made Easy, you will love this Yeti adventure as well. Absolutely worth seeing!
