Content: As Charles Dickens wrote so beautifully in The Tale of Two Cities: It was the best of times, it was the worst time. This applies perfectly to the current television landscape as well. On the one hand, there's top-notch series fare like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Luther, and Downton Abbey. On the other hand, scripted reality formats, astro shows, casting shows and tired show formats with Z celebrities are also celebrating a boom. But fortunately there has been a voice of reason for trash TV for twenty years now: Kalkofes Mattscheibe. Started as a radio format, Oliver Kalkofe's biting commentaries and delightful parodies initially delighted PREMIERE viewers before the show moved to ProSieben in 2003 after a long break. Since 2012, Germany's TV criticPapstGott-Nr.1 has found a new home on Tele5 with Kalkofes Mattscheibe REKALKED, where the second season of the series has since run successfully and has now been released in a great DVD box set.
It quickly becomes clear that The Walking Kalk has lost none of its wicked bite. When it pokes fun at unspeakable formats such as reality queens on safari or the celebrity version of Big Brother, takes on the media embarrassments of Boris Becker or once again parodies channels such as Astro TV, there is not a dry eye in the house. As a viewer, you're always torn between crying at the cruelty of the clips shown and laughing heartily at Kalkofe's comments and his deservedly vicious parodies. But in the end you are actually a little grateful for all the TV trash - because without this trash there would not be a format like Kalkofes Mattscheibe.
Duration commercials, talk shows, reports, quiz shows or generally always pushing themselves into the media foreground - here really no one is safe from Kalkofes sharp tongue. The fact that his comments are often below the belt and not always politically correct may not please some fine minds, but it speaks for itself to all clear-thinking TV junkies. And that's why we can only hope that Oliver Kalkofe won't be leaving us all alone with all the trash formats any time soon, and that he will continue to be seen as the biting voice of reason for as long as possible. Therefore, also applies to the second Rekalked season again: Absolutely worth seeing!
Picture + Sound: The picture and sound quality is on a good level for a TV comedy show. The picture is clean, the sharpness is decent and the colors are powerfully mixed. The sound, which is in Dolby Stereo, conveys Kalkofe's biting comments clearly and powerfully on the speakers, although it's not a bad thing that the whole thing is mainly very central and has little in the way of dynamics to offer. Good!
Extras: The DVD box set has plenty of extra material to offer. The best bonus for fans are the four episodes of The Final Kalkdown (approx. 180 min.), featuring the best clips from 20 years of the Mattscheibe, and The Incredible Kalk (approx. 163 min.), the Tele 5 anniversary gala for the Mattscheibe. Here you can see not only the very best clips of the show. Also congratulate here numerous surprise guests Oliver Kalkofe and his team in sometimes very amusing way.
In addition, there are as usual amusing menus, audio commentaries on all ten episodes of the second season with Kalkofe and chief judge Oliver Mohme, as well as the great review of 2013 (about 90 minutes). As if that wasn't enough, there is also a detailed making of (approx. 60 min.), a visit to the set by GROBIT.TV including an interview with Oliver Kalkofe (approx. 48 min.), various clips from the gobstopper (including on the election, the Uli Hoeneß case, the end of Wetten, dass...? or the Wendler), as well as Easter Eggs. A bulging and really great bonus package that makes the purchase of this box for fans to the absolute must!
Conclusion: Kalkofes Mattscheibe REKALKED is also in the second season again biting TV satire at its best. In the twelve episodes of the second REKALKED season, it becomes clear again and again that Oliver Kalkofe even after 20 years of Mattscheibe still gets enough material for his wonderfully vicious parodies and politically incorrect comments delivered. In addition to the season episodes, the box set also offers two extensive anniversary specials, as well as other extensive bonus material. All in all, that's well over 12 hours of matte disc material that fans should definitely not miss. Absolutely recommended!
