Olaf Schubert (Olaf Schubert) descends from a great lineage. His family can be traced back to Casanova, Spartacus and of course.Mozart. But now this lineage is in danger of dying out for good. Because Olaf is single - and he wants to stay that way. After all, all relationships end in bloodsucking offspring, also called children, and Olaf has no desire for that at all. But when his father (Mario Adorf) falls seriously ill, he takes heart in fulfilling the old man's great wish of a parent. Finding the right woman for the job can't be that hard. Or can it?
Schubert in Love is the feature debut of federal Olaf and sweater enthusiast Olaf Schubert. Who knows his programs, his show Olaf TV or his appearances in various TV shows like the heute Show, knows that the humor of Olaf Schubert is already very special. And this is exactly the case with Lars Büchel's comedy (Erbsen auf halb 6). Whenever Schubert's sometimes very cryptic play with the German language and his wonderful word creations come into play, this somewhat different romantic comedy works very well. Especially in direct contrast to a seasoned actor like Mario Adorf, Schubert's play seems extremely amusing.
And moments like a glimpse into his work process or his girlfriend casting also have a high entertainment value. But there are also, unfortunately, plenty of gags that just fall flat or simply fizzle out into nothingness. And at some point, Schubert's naive-egoistic-asexual behavior also loses its comedic appeal. Therefore, if you can't really do much with Schubert's humor, you won't be amused anymore, but just annoyed, at the latest halfway through the movie.
Who, on the other hand, is a fan of the maladjusted comedian, will easily put away the weaknesses of script and staging. Because the sweater on two legs remains true to his style until the end in such a way that the audience, which could laugh so far not only about 5minütige short appearances on TV Total and Co. but also about his complete programs - including singing interludes - heartily again and again at their expense. And exactly this audience will then certainly be in love with Schubert in Love. Worth seeing
