Content: When a team from SWR came across the Ludolf family in 2002 while researching a documentary about the 700th anniversary of Dernbach, no one could have imagined the success story that would be unleashed. Initially, the planned contribution about Dernbach turned into a two-part documentary about the Schrott-Brüder - Die Autoverwerter aus dem Westerwald (The Scrap Metal Brothers - Car Recyclers from the Westerwald), which was followed by further contributions on various cable channels. Quickly the brothers Peter, Günter, Uwe and Manni Ludolf had a small fan base, which was attractive enough for the special interest channel DMAX to dedicate their own docu-soap to the Ludolfs, which was shown for the first time in 2006.

Eight seasons on DMAX, a feature film, two books and countless appearances on TV shows such as TV Total Stockcar Rennen or Die Alm ensured that the Ludolf brothers soon became quite the cult. The far too early death of Günter in January 2011 has left a deep hole not only for the Ludolf family, but also for many thousands of fans, through which the charming dynamics of yesteryear simply can no longer be achieved. So then the new webisodes, which are no longer on DMAX but on <link http: www.ludolfs-online.de>www.ludolfs-online.de, are nowhere near as worth watching as the episodes of one.

Die Ludolfs.feiern Weihnachten is one of those features that is undoubtedly always worth watching for fans. The Christmas episode originated as a special during the course of the first season, and has since become part of the obligatory holiday programming for many fans. What Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella, Christmas at the Hoppenstedt's or the Christmas episode of the Heinz Becker family are for some, The Ludolfs.celebrate Christmas is for Ludolf fans. And this special can now finally be enjoyed on DVD.

While the normal business of car recyclers has to continue in the run-up to Christmas, Manni and Uwe devote themselves to a very special project: they want to make an old three-wheeled Tempo roadworthy again. In memory of their father, who once drove exactly such a car, the Tempo is restored and decorated for Christmas. With this, Manni, Uwe and Peter then want to drive to children dressed as Santa Clauses and give them great joy - which at least one child doesn't quite want to succeed.

At the same time, model car fan Peter also fixes up a miniature Tempo so that it looks like his father's car. This car is then left at his father's grave when they visit the cemetery together. The family's house also wants to be festively decorated, of course, but the Dernbach fire brigade has to help with that. And finally, to the traditional sound of the Heintje Christmas CD, Peter sets about cooking not noodles for once, but roast with potatoes and red cabbage to feed the whole family who come to visit on Christmas Eve.

The Ludolfs.celebrate Christmas is full of endearing moments. For example, when Manni sings Oh Tannenbaum completely wrong, Peter is praised by his sister for his cooking skills or the brothers are happy about a racetrack, like little children, then real Christmas spirit comes up even for all Ludolf fans. This is a lovely special that still works five years after its initial broadcast, making it an absolutely recommended purchase for fans.

Picture + Sound: Both the picture and the sound are on a good TV level. The dialogues determining the tonal events are well understandable, however, also very front mixed. In the clean picture, the colouring is particularly pleasing, in terms of sharpness of detail and contrast, the whole thing could have turned out a little better. Overall, however, there is a deserved for the genre of docu-soap: Good!

Extras: Except for a trailer, the DVD has no bonus material to offer.

Conclusion: The Ludolfs.celebrate Christmas belongs for fans of the brothers long to Christmas as the Christmas goose, the Christmas tree and gifts. Nice that there is this special now on DVD. Although the DVD has no bonus material to offer, for fans is worth the purchase but all the time!
