Film: But that was quite a cinematic event when the Eintracht Frankfurt players brought the DFB Pokal back to Frankfurt in May 2018. Thousands of fans cheered along the route from the airport to Römerberg, where a whole sea of other fans waited to celebrate the victory together. This event has now given rise to The Return of the Cup - The Film, which in 89 minutes impressively reveals the inner workings surrounding the DFB Cup victory from May 2018.
The rousing documentary offers fans exclusive insights into the inner workings of the team before, during and after the final, as well as interviews in which protagonists talk about this historic weekend. It's not only interesting, but also emotionally stirring. There are also images of Rebic's inimitable goals and Gacinovic's unforgettable solo run, accompanied by the original commentary. This is guaranteed to give many fans goosebumps once again.
The whole thing came about because a film team was allowed to accompany the team from their departure on Thursday to the end of the celebrations on the Römer on Sunday around the DFB Cup weekend. Once it was clear that this historic victory was to be documented for a film, interviews were conducted with coaches, players and officials afterwards. The result is a film that impressively shows the inner workings of Eintracht and conveys the dedication and passion with which everyone involved worked for a successful final. For fans, it's a truly great look behind the scenes and a stirring reminder of a truly special day! Above all, those who were there themselves will regard The Return of the Cup - The Movie as a very special work.
In the cinema, the documentary developed into a real surprise success. Additional screenings had to be scheduled again and again, and they quickly sold out. Now you can experience the whole thing again and again at home. So, put the DVD or Blu-ray in the player and experience this sporting event once again, in which not only a city, but an entire region shared in the excitement! Not only for Eintracht fans an absolute must!
Picture + Sound: The image quality of the DVD is at a very good level for a current documentary. Especially the interview sequences convince with a high image sharpness and coherent contrasts. But also the shots of the game or the victory celebration present themselves without noticeable weaknesses. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is rather restrained during the interviews, but also lets a good surround feeling sound during other scenes. Good!
Extras: Fans can rejoice, because the DVD still has numerous extras worth seeing to offer. There are numerous additional clips, such as a summary of all the goals at the final game (approx. 2:50 min.), impressions of the Eintracht games to fan chants of "In the heart of Europe" (approx. 2:56 min.), the team lineup at the final (approx. 1:16 min.), as well as Eintracht players singing for joy on the bus or even on the Römer balcony (approx. 4:42 min.). A few amusing outtakes follow (approx. 1:10 min.), as well as a whole lot of additional interview sequences (approx. 73 min.). Here fans get to see even more statements from Kevin-Prince Boateng, Marco Russ, Danny De Costa, Fredi Bobic or Peter Fischer, among others.
And that's not all: Other clips show happy fans who got tickets for the final as a gift during a ticket campaign (approx. 2:05 min.), rousing footage from the public viewing in the Commerzbank Arena (approx. 3:03 min.), a best of final (approx. 2:44 min.), as well as footage from the cinema premiere in Frankfurt (approx. 4:31 min.). But there is also a bittersweet moment: the return of the trophy (ca. 3:56 min.), followed by a final thank you to the fans (ca. 1:44 min.). The trailer to the film may not be missing of course.
Conclusion: The return of the cup - The film was a real surprise success in the cinema.
