15:00 Concert: The Wawa Aba Ensemble takes you on a fascinating journey through the rich and diverse music and dance culture of West Africa. With over 30 different West African rhythms in their repertoire, the six artists from Burkina Faso, Ghana and Argentina offer an impressive performance. They present traditional dance and drum pieces that are a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. Wawa Aba, the name of the ensemble, has a deeper meaning; it is an Adinkra symbol and represents the seed of the Wawa tree. In the Akan culture of Ghana, this seed stands for strength, endurance and resilience. The Samba de Roda, which has its origins in the Recôncavo Baiano, is considered the forerunner of the Bossa Nova and the Samba Carioca from Rio de Janeiro. 20:30 Concert: Jaliba Kuyateh is a well-known Gambian musician who plays contemporary kora music and is also known as the 'king of kora'.
