The revue BERLIN BERLIN invites you to dance on the volcano

Award-winning and elaborately revised: The great show of the Golden 20s plays in the winter of 2022 in Berlin and makes guest appearances in the summer of 2023 at selected opera houses and concert halls Advance sales for the summer dates start on October 6, 2022!

Bob heads, water waves, chic sequin dresses - for the ladies in the 1920s, the signs are on emancipation. And the men? They plunged into the thicket of the night in casual knickerbockers and slouch hats. Because now money is looser again, confidence and joie de vivre are the order of the day - and the desire for "Amüsemang". The award-winning revue BERLIN BERLIN - The Great Show of the Golden Twenties invites you into this bubbling cosmos, with its debauched absinthe binges, wild music, and dashing revue girls. The dance on the volcano can begin: "Der Dietrich ihr Milljöh" will go on tour to Germany's most renowned classical and opera stages in the summer of 2023. It will be experienced in July 2023 at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.

The "Roaring Twenties" in newly staged garb

"BERLIN BERLIN is a matter of the heart for us," explains Ralf Kokemüller, producer and CEO of Mehr-BB Entertainment. "This revue lives and changes like life itself. To finally be able to continue what we and our artists have worked on for months with passion, extraordinary energy and joy makes me very happy!" Following its highly acclaimed world premiere in December 2019 at the Admiralspalast in Berlin and a sold-out first series of guest performances, the Live Entertainment Award (LEA)-winning revue has been further developed and extensively revised in terms of both content and visuals. Like Berlin, the city that is constantly changing, BERLIN BERLIN is also changing. "This allows us to capture even more of the club atmosphere of the 20s and make it possible to experience even more intensively how everything took place back then - quirky, authentic characters included," says director and writer Christoph Biermeier with pleasure. "We tell consciously not only from the time of 1920, but also from our present, which places us straight again before large challenges."

In the winter of 2021 the effects of the pandemic had abruptly stopped the second multi-month tour after few Berlin appearances. As a result, only a few spectators have been able to experience the restaged show live. Now it is finally played again!

BERLIN BERLIN gathers the greats of Berlin's heyday from 1927 to 1933 in a potpourri of scenes as provocative and dazzling as the decade itself. The charismatic emcee, the "Admiral", tells spicy and certifiable anecdotes from the capital of vice and, together with the 30-strong ensemble, dares the adventure on a knife edge between economic crisis and unbridled lust for pleasure. Music and the great stars of their time experience a brilliant renaissance: one moment, style icon Marlene Dietrich and femme fatale and self-promoter Anita Berber are bickering mightily at each other; the next, playwright Bertolt Brecht and composer Kurt Weill land an unexpected hit with their Threepenny Opera. The incomparable scandal dancer Josephine Baker sends the gentlemen and ladies into a frenzy with her ecstatic movements, and the Comedian Harmonists recall the long road to their earworms that have outlasted the century.

Sparks fly when the Revuegirls swing their legs to dances such as Charleston, Lindy Hop, Tango, Foxtrot and Swing and the BERLIN BERLIN Orchestra invites you to dance on the volcano with more than 30 contemporary arranged German and English-language highlight numbers such as "Bei mir bist du schön", "Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt", "Puttin' on the Ritz" and "Mackie Messer". Finally, however, modernity, innovative spirit and freedom come to an abrupt end with the Nazis' seizure of power, both on stage and in reality. The myth, however, lives on!

A time when there were no borders

"BERLIN BERLIN tells of a time when the city became an international melting pot, a focal point for all political, cultural and social events. A world in which everything was possible and in which there were no borders," says director Christoph Biermeier. "The feeling of life in the 20s is passed on to the audience with great impact." Musical supervisor Gary Hickeson, as well as Richard Morris, who wrote the arrangements, provide the appropriate sound for the show. "We capture the authentic image of the '20s with German titles, but also with international music that was pouring into the city at the time. It was a real explosion of musical styles that came together at that time, from Berlin Schlager to American jazz to the vocal music of the Comedian Harmonists," explains Hickeson
