One of the most enduring artistic greats of our time, Grigory Sokolov has remained true to himself and his infinitely noble approach to music-making for decades. The very fact that he
has at no time allowed himself to be taken in by the laws of the music market makes him a significant exception in international concert life. He places the music at the centre, modestly taking a back seat to it. Yet his strong character enables him to penetrate it completely. The 6 Piano Pieces op. 118 by Brahms, with their intimacy, enable the exceptional artist to musically exhaust every note and every passage, no matter how small.
The deeply moving result of this penetration is also shown by Sokolov in Brahms' opus 119, in which the latter deals with his own piano work and ends it with the almost symphonic rhapsody of this cycle. Although still top secret, the rest of the programme is guaranteed to further inspire the evening!
