On the first three weekends of Advent, one of the most atmospheric Christmas markets in the region awaits you again: the Historical Christmas Market at Ronneburg Castle. The castle is full of life on these days and filled to all corners with stalls.
Already at the entrance greets you the smell of hot mead. But also the smell of roasted almonds, baked and after hot mulled wine provides the right mood, which is then still underlined by the beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the upper courtyard.
Children are especially happy about the candy maker and about St. Nicholas as a bishop with his angel. But the very special atmosphere at the castle is also built up by young men in armor and young women in medieval robes. Simply beautiful!
But not only that makes this market different from all the urban Christmas markets in the area. In addition to many Christmas things such as nativity figures, wooden toys, Christmas decorations from Thuringia, the Ore Mountains or from Bohemian lands, which are offered, you meet many craftsmen at the castle: glassblowers, ceramists, basket weavers, spinner, gold and silversmiths, woodturners, wood carvers, leather makers, wool dyers and herbalist demonstrate their activities and offer their goods for sale. Knife and helmet smiths shape glowing iron on the anvil with powerful blows in the smoke of the forge. Merchants with historical goods delight the eye and entice you to buy Christmas gifts.
There is also music, the Christmas story as a living nativity scene, tarte flambée, hot chestnuts, homemade cake and and.
A really nice Christmas market that you should not miss.
