The world is divided: On one side of the wall rule the Capulets, on the other the Montagues. Violence reigns on both sides. Every border crossing, every encounter claims the injured and the dead. Why does Romeo, the son of the house of Montague, fall in love with Juliet, the daughter of Lady Capulet? Is it the mortal danger of this love that draws them both to each other? Father Lorenzo performs the secret marriage. But after only one night, disaster takes its course: Romeo kills Juliet's cousin Tybalt and must flee. Juliet's manic mother is working flat out to marry her daughter to a rival. Escape is the only option. Or death. Or both? Marius von Mayenburg tells Shakespeare's famous tragedy as a story of the fascination of love and death. The relentlessness of violence takes on sensual form in Stéphane Laimé's "Face Wall". In the process, the audience must also decide: Which side of the wall are you on? The production was developed at Schauspielhaus Bochum in spring 2017.
