On January 1, 2024, the 2024 carnival campaign kicks off with a special highlight: the traditional New Year's parade of the Mainz guards and marching bands. Around 1,200 guardsmen, dragoons, hussars, heralds and princesses and princes will parade through the streets of Mainz together with around 450 musicians to ring in the fifth season.
The procession starts from Ernst-Ludwig-Platz at 11:11 a.m. via Große Bleiche and Münsterplatz, before winding its way along Schillerstrasse, Schillerplatz and Ludwigsstrasse to Domplatz. There, a powerful New Year's concert by the Mainz Guards, organized by the Mainzer Carneval-Verein (MCV) and the City of Mainz, awaits all fools and jesters.
