Especially in Sachsenhausen apple wine taverns are really not rare. And in principle most of these pubs are very similar in equipment and offer. And nevertheless some cider taverns succeed to stand out from the masses by small details and to enjoy quite special popularity. One of these pubs is the "Ebbelwoi Unser", which has been located in the Abtsgäßchen in the former premises of the "Proletariat Schreiber-Heyne" (now in the Dreieichstr.) since August 2015. In a very short time, this cider bar has achieved absolute cult status. Empty tables are an absolute rarity here. Rather, the restaurant is usually well-filled and, if you haven't made a reservation, you're simply seated wherever there's room. But although it is usually noisy and crowded, there is an extremely cozy and convivial atmosphere here, which contributes a lot to the popularity of this location.
What is immediately noticeable upon entering is the warmth that is extended to you here as a guest. On our visits, no matter how busy it was, we were always graciously served. The service was also very attentive and did not let itself be disturbed by special requests and hectic. For this, a sincere compliment. But a nice service is of course not everything. But fortunately the food is also good at the "Ebbelwoi Unser". The clear menu pleases already when reading with a humorous undertone. The portions are very generous, so that here really no one must go home hungry.
We tried the schnitzel with green sauce, as well as the rump steak with homemade green sauce herb butter. Very positive immediately noticed that here ingredients such as the green sauce, but also the snow flurry are served in extra pots. Thus, the guest can decide for himself where he wants to pour how much of the sauce. The schnitzel was very tender, the green sauce absolutely tasty. The steak was fried to perfection and the herb butter was really to die for. But also the side dishes could convince.
The cider comes from the wine press Rothenbücher from Schöllkrippen and tastes hearty delicious. But - and this is not a matter of course - there is also Schlappeseppel Kellerbier and of course all kinds of non-alcoholic beverages, whereby the apple juice, which we drank in addition to the cider, could also leave a very positive impression.
Good food, friendly and attentive service and a warm atmosphere - no wonder that the "Ebbelwoi Unser" is so popular. We can only agree with the many enthusiastic guests - and will definitely stop by again soon!
