Winery Schätzel from Nierstein becomes VDP.Member
Mainz/Nierstein |The Schätzel Winery from Nierstein will become a new member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter e.V.) as of January 1, 2016.
With this new admission, the VDP.Rheinhessen counts 16 members out of 200 nationwide. The Schätzel family has been growing grapes on the Rhine for 650 years. The goal has always been to produce unique wines that show where they come from.
Best slope and steep sites on the Rhine, including top sites such as Pettenthal, Ölberg or Hipping, are the good nursery of the wines. The red clay slate soil gives them a distinctive mineral note and filigree structure. In the 800-year-old cellar vaults, the wines are then given a lot of time and careful guidance by Kai Schätzel.
"Kai Schätzel has succeeded in optimally setting up his wine estate and in implementing the idea of origin with a lot of meticulousness and heart and soul", Philipp Wittmann, chairman of the VDP.Rheinhessen, says.
"The decisive factor for the admission to the VDP.Rheinhessen was the steadily increasing wine quality observed during the past few years, but also the commitment to the wine cultural landscape of Rheinhessen and the preservation of vineyards that are difficult to cultivate, like the steep slopes of the Rote Hang in Nierstein."
"For me, it is a great confirmation of our continuous quality work", Kai Schätzel is happy. Since taking over the business in 2008, he has been committed to a cooler style of wines. "The deceleration of the vines is very important to us, we focus on puristic, honest wines with a lot of depth and minerality."
At Prowein (March 13-15, 2016) in Düsseldorf, the new member will present itself for the first time with its colleagues from VDP.Rheinhessen at the VDP.joint stand in Hall 14.
The admission of new members to the VDP is carried out according to strict testing regulations in order to guarantee a continuously high level for top wines and estates. Since the introduction of the VDP.Betriebsprüfung in 1991, 124 new members have been admitted and 86 members have left
