ZWEI VDP NEUAUFNAHMEN - ALS WUNDERBARES SPAGAT ZWISCHEN TRADITION UND NEUENTDECKUNG

ZWEI VDP NEUAUFNAHMEN - ALS WUNDERBARES SPAGAT ZWISCHEN TRADITION UND NEUENTDECKUNG

Category: More

4 March 2013 - F.B. Schönleber/Rheingau and Stefan Winter/Rheinhessen are the two "NEW" members of the VDP. Prädikatsweingüter

The new admission of two wineries was recently confirmed by the federal board of the Verbands Deut- scher Prädikatsweingüter e.V. (VDP) confirmed: F.B. Schönleber from Oestrich-Winkel/Rheingau as well as Stefan Winter from Dittelsheim-Hessloch/Rheinhessen convinced with their quality-obsessed work of the last years and their analogue expressive wines. With their character marked by their origin, they convinced the decision-making committee of Germany's top winemakers.

F.B. Schönleber, Rheingau
Old documents dating back to 1783 document the family's winegrowing activities. Today the winery is run by the brothers Ralf (viticultural technician) and Bernd (viticultural engineer) Schönleber. The parent generation looks after the popular wine tavern with passion and the hotel is also family-run, while the next generation is still literally in its infancy.

Ten hectares of vineyards in VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN AND VDP.ERSTEN LAGEN around Oestrich-Winkel, Erbach and Kiedrich belong to the winery. The most recent Gault Millau rating: "This is one of the most reliable wineries in the Rheingau, which is very good at producing dry Rieslings and excellent sparkling wines," clearly expresses the continuous striving for quality and also focuses on sparkling wine, whose production according to traditional methods accounts for as much as one fifth of the annual production.

Winter, Rheinhessen
For 12 years, Stefan Winter has been at the helm of his parents' winery in Dittelsheim in southern Rheinhessen at the foot of the Kloppberg, the highest elevation in the Wonnegau region. He has continuously led the winery to the top of producers in the region. The estate's best sites are the Dittelsheimer GEYERSBERG and LECKERBERG, some of which have vines that are almost 50 years old. On deep clay marl and limestone-rich rock soils, he grows more than 50% Riesling. All wines are almost without exception dry. His credo is "I don't produce pleasing wines, because pleasing is boring!" For this reason, he lets his vineyards develop their potential and supports nature with craftsmanship and diligence. And this is also confirmed by the critics: "The local wines are real benchmarks with Riesling, Weissburgunder and Silvaner, and among the site Rieslings, the LECKERBERG, for example, beguiles with its depth and stylish wild herb tones." (Gault Millau 2013)

Steffen Christmann, president of the VDP Prädikatsweingüter:
With these new admissions, the VDP has now grown beyond the 200 members. However, this is not a prejudice for further growth. For us, it is only important to unite the best and most ambitious wineries of a region under the grape eagle. Those who, with verve and seriousness, establish the classification of the origins in Germany together with us and jointly and permanently advance the German top winegrowing.
