Das MAL SEH`N - Frankfurts ausgezeichnetes Programmkino

Category: Favorite places

When the small program cinema MAL SEH`N was founded in 1984 by a group of filmmakers and film lovers, it was the only program cinema in the city. A little hidden in a side street in the Nordend, the cinema had a hard time in the beginning and had to overcome several crises in the course of time. But the makers, who worked for a long time only on a voluntary basis for the small cinema, did not let themselves be discouraged by this. And that has paid off, because in the meantime the MAL SEH`N enjoys great popularity and has already received several awards, including the Hessian Film and Cinema Award in the category "Commercial Cinema".

The 80-seat cinema shows sophisticated films from all over the world, usually in the original version with German subtitles. Exceptional documentaries and special film series are also offered here. Lovers of art house fare beyond the mainstream regularly find very special gems here, which the film artist responsible for the programme, Gunter Deller, selects with a good eye for real specialities. And selected children's films are also on offer at lunchtime on weekends.

The cinema also includes a very cosily designed Café where it is possible to relax before and after the film. But also, who does not like to go to the cinema, is welcome in the Café. In addition to coffee and tea, there is also wine, beers, juices and a small selection of snacks. You can tell that the team around theater director Ariane Hofmann is here in every aspect with a lot of passion and heart and soul. The MAL SEH`N is a very charming place, but also an important cultural institution, through which Frankfurt's cinema landscape is still given a very special touch, despite considerable thinning out in recent years. An absolute must for lovers of exceptional film!
