The Steinern Haus in Alt-Sachsenhausen has two special features. Firstly, it is the oldest stone house in Sachsenhausen. Secondly, the house, built in 1464, houses in its cellar the Summa Summarum, a small but fine music cellar with a truly rustic charm. Behind a wooden door is a sandstone staircase that leads into the small vaulted cellar. A stage, a bar and a few seating and standing areas make their home here amongst old wine barrels, musical instruments and other atmospheric pieces.
This is the home of jazz in its most original form. But other musical genres such as swing, soul, funk or Dixie are also offered a stage at Summa Summarum. Also the new generation is promoted: Open mic events are held here regularly, where everyone can prove their talent. The cellar not only has a very special atmosphere, but also good acoustics, from which not only the guests, but especially the musicians benefit.
Because of the rather small space, you should have no fear of contact as a visitor. Here you can talk to other guests, listen to the music together or talk about jazz in particular, about music in general or simply about Frankfurt over a delicious dark country beer or a cider. In any case, it never gets boring here. Especially for jazz lovers who like to enjoy this music in a classic jazz club ambience, a visit to Summa Summarum is definitely recommended!
