The year 2025 will be all about art and culture in Frankfurt. With 39 participating museums and numerous special exhibitions, the Museumsufer Frankfurt promises a program full of highlights. Special attention will be paid to the 100th anniversary of the "New Frankfurt", a revolutionary urban planning movement that was shaped by Ernst May in the 1920s.
Ina Hartwig, Head of Cultural Affairs, emphasizes the importance of this anniversary: "In 2025, we will celebrate 100 years of 'New Frankfurt' with exciting collaborations between the museums. The anniversary sheds light on the movement from a variety of perspectives and makes the cultural significance of this era tangible."
Exhibitions around the "New Frankfurt"
At the heart of the anniversary is the exhibition "100 Years of New Frankfurt" at the Museum Angewandte Kunst, which will provide insights into the ideas and achievements of the movement from May 9, 2025. The show will be complemented by "Yes, we care!", a special exhibition on the common good and welfare.
The German Architecture Museum (DAM) will celebrate its reopening on February 1, 2025 with exhibitions such as "DAM Prize 2025" and "The City is the Sport". From May, the show "Awakening and Change - The New Frankfurt and the Present" will shed light on the urban planning visions of this era in comparison to modern neighborhood projects.
The Historical Museum will be setting a further accent with the exhibition "Alle Tage Wohnungsfrage" from 18 June.
More art and diversity
Numerous highlights are also on offer beyond the anniversary theme: From May 8, the Städel Museum will dedicate itself to the artist Annegret Soltau, followed by a show on Carl Schuch in the fall. At the Caricatura Museum, visitors can look forward to works by Walter Moers and Michael Sowa. The Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung presents Isa Genzken, whose sculptures meet antique sculptures.
The "Night of the Museums" on May 10, 2025 offers the opportunity to experience numerous special exhibitions in a unique atmosphere.
Renovations and new perspectives
While the DAM is returning to Schaumainkai, the Schirn Kunsthalle is being renovated and will temporarily move into the old Dondorf printing works. The MMK für Moderne Kunst will remain closed due to fire protection work, but the Tower MMK and Zollamt MMK branches will remain accessible.
MuseumsuferCard celebrates 25th anniversary
2025 also marks the 25th anniversary of the MuseumsuferCard. Holders of the card enjoy free admission to all participating museums and benefit from exclusive anniversary offers such as vouchers and special promotions.
The varied 2025 program is aimed at art and culture lovers of all ages. Further information is available at museumsufer.de.
