Good news for all Eintracht fans: Kevin Trapp, undoubtedly one of Germany's best goalkeepers, will remain an Eagle bearer! The contract of the 32-year-old, who is one of the team captains, would actually have expired on June 30, 2024, but has now been extended ahead of schedule by two more years. The contract includes the option to extend for another year.
Kevin Trapp first joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2012, where he was instrumental in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League in his very first season. After three successful years on the Main, the Saarland native moved to French serial champions Paris Saint-Germain. There, too, Trapp promptly became a regular goalkeeper, appearing a total of 91 times between the posts for the capital. He did not concede a goal in 48 games. With the French top club, Trapp became champion, cup winner and league cup winner three times each, as well as Super Cup winner five times.
After the three successful years in Paris, Trapp followed the call from home for the 2018/19 season and made - initially on loan - his comeback in the Eintracht jersey. After a memorable season with the entry into the Europa League semifinals, Trapp signed a long-term contract in Frankfurt.
During his time in Paris, Kevin Trapp was called up to the DFB selection for the first time. The 32-year-old has made six appearances for the national team so far. Among other things, Trapp was part of the German squad at the past two World Cups.
In recent years, Kevin Trapp's development has gone hand in hand with that of Eintracht, which is reflected among other things in winning the UEFA Europa League 2022, in which Trapp played a significant role as a leading player. To date, Trapp has kept the Frankfurt goal a total of 282 times, making him the goalkeeper with the second most appearances in the club's history. In the current season, he overtook club legends Uli Stein and Dr. Peter Kunter. The number of appearances is surpassed only by Oka Nikolov and his 415 games. In the coming years, many more of Trapp's appearances in the Eintracht jersey will follow.
Sports director Markus Krösche is delighted with the early contract extension: "Kevin Trapp is an absolute identification figure and stands for Eintracht Frankfurt like no other. His outstanding goalkeeping, but also his personality make him an indispensable part of our team and our club! At all times, it was important to us to extend Kevin's contract in the long term and also to give him a perspective for his time after his active career. It is important for the club to retain identification figures for longer and to transfer the awareness of Eintracht's special characteristics to future generations of players within the team as well. In addition, from my point of view, we now have the strongest German goalkeeper between our posts in the long term. That makes us proud."
And Kevin Trapp says of his decision, "Everyone knows how much this club means to me and that I feel at home in Frankfurt. I am happy that I will continue to be a part of the Eintracht family. We've already experienced a lot together and still have a lot to do. The club's ambitions coincide one hundred percent with mine and I am eager to continue giving my all for Eintracht Frankfurt."
