While the southern and western German states are closed for the public holiday on Friday, November 1, Frankfurt's city center opens its doors and invites you to the shopping and experience event "Zu Gast in Frankfurt". In cooperation with the Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Hesse Trade Association and the Frankfurt Economic Development Agency, the City Marketing Department has put together a varied program that combines culture, culinary delights and shopping.
Attractive program for visitors from near and far
"Frankfurt is the ideal excursion destination for our neighbors who want to use their day off for shopping and culture. Together with Frankfurt's retailers, we have developed a program that makes the city centre worth experiencing and offers the first opportunity for Christmas shopping," explains Stephanie Wüst, Head of Economic Affairs. Some of the stores in Frankfurt's city center will be open until 10 pm, giving visitors plenty of time for their shopping tour.
Shop and enjoy in the city center
Numerous participating stores and specialty stores will entice shoppers with special offers and promotions. The MyZeil shopping center offers a particularly wide range of products with something for every taste. In addition, well-known and owner-managed stores are represented, ensuring a varied shopping experience.
Stage program and culinary highlights
Radio FFH presenter Julia Nestle will accompany the event on a central stage at the Hauptwache. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be interviews and competitions with attractive prizes. Culinary specialties such as Frankfurt's green sauce bratwurst and fresh waffles will be available at the stands, as will various museums, which will attract visitors on this day with extended opening hours and free admission, such as the MOMEM (Museum Of Modern Electronic Music).
A special highlight awaits guests after dark: a larger-than-life, illuminated "Dundu" puppet, which will parade through the city center and delight young and old alike.
Goal: An annual event on November 1
"We want to make Frankfurt city center a regular attraction for visitors on November 1," says Eduard M. Singer, Head of City Marketing. Joachim Stoll, spokesman for IG CITYhandel, also emphasizes: "We are looking forward to welcoming guests from the region and neighbouring federal states and would like to present Frankfurt as a place of hospitality and diversity."
A day to strengthen local commerce and the cultural industry
The Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry supports the event as an opportunity for retailers, restaurants and creative artists to showcase their best side. "We see this holiday event as a win-win situation and hope it will be a success that will strengthen Frankfurt's retail and cultural offerings in the long term," says Alexander Theiss, Managing Director of Location Policy at IHK Frankfurt.
