An end to the "Hot Chip Challenge" dare: The state of Hessen has banned the sale of the extremely hot chips. Any remaining stocks may no longer be sold with immediate effect.
The campaign, in which participants challenge each other to eat the spicy corn tortilla chips, has become increasingly popular on social media.
The "Hot Chips" are seasoned with the hottest chili variety in the world, the "Carolina Reaper", and have a heat level of around 2,000,000 Scoville. For comparison: Tabasco sauces usually have 3,000 Scoville.
The Hessian Ministry of Consumer Protection had already warned of the risks of this challenge with the slogan: "It's often not far from TikTok to the ambulance."Despite this warning, the spicy hot chips continued to be consumed. Hesse is now responding with a sales ban.
