A historic moment for German basketball took place yesterday in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, as the victorious German national basketball team returned home after their impressive success at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Japan and the Philippines.
The team was met by an enthusiastic crowd just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, in front of the ING Germany headquarters, diagonally opposite Frankfurt's Festhalle. Fans had gathered early in the morning to welcome their heroes. The players and officials of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) received a warm welcome from Federal Minister Nancy Faeser, Frankfurt Mayor Mike Josef, ING Deutschland Board Member Eddy Henning, and more than 1,000 enthusiastic fans.
The official main sponsor of the DBB, ING Deutschland, played a major role in organizing this reception. The event took place in front of the headquarters at Theodor-Heuss-Allee 2, where fans gathered.
The highlights of the reception were undoubtedly the moving moments when the players and DBB officials celebrated on stage and talked about the world championship title. When world champion coach Gordon Herbert stepped forward on stage and announced "This group of guys is the best in the world, the best team Germans have ever seen, and they are even better people", all the fans had goosebumps and the players had tears in their eyes.
