New dinosaur additions at the Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt

New dinosaur additions at the Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt

The Senckenberg Research Institute and Nature Museum Frankfurt is expanding its impressive dinosaur exhibition: detailed skeletal reconstructions of two new theropods are now on display - Velociraptor and Deinonychus. The two bipedal predatory dinosaurs with sharp teeth and claws complement the existing collection in the Dinosaur Hall and offer visitors exciting insights into the world of prehistoric predators.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Mulch, Director of the Senckenberg Nature Museum, explains: "The new models are a highlight of our permanent exhibition. They not only offer scientifically sound insights into the anatomy of these fascinating animals, but also a spectacular visual experience."

Especially exciting for fans of the movie "Jurassic Park": In the blockbuster, the Velociraptor was depicted as a scaly, large pack hunter. In reality, however, the Velociraptor was much smaller, about two meters long and 60 centimetres high, and had a plumage. Instead, the film used the Deinonychus as a model, a much larger relative that can also be seen in the new exhibition. Dr. Thorolf Müller, Senior Curator at the Senckenberg Museum, clarifies: "Deinonychus was an impressive hunter with excellent eyesight and a distinctive predatory claw - it probably hunted in groups."

The new reconstructions are based on the latest scientific findings and were made by specialists in Italy. Among other things, the models were based on a spectacular fossil find from Mongolia, which shows a fight between a Velociraptor and a herbivore.

With these additions, the dinosaur exhibition at the Senckenberg Nature Museum is now one of the largest in Germany.
