He who says February must also endure Carnival. Because that's what it looks like this week. That's what we've got to get through. Some are already fidgeting with impatience because the adventurous pirate costume is waiting in the basement. The others are fidgeting because they think joy at the push of a button is stupid.
Which kind are you? I thought -as a born Lower Saxon anyway- not to have much to do with carnival. But the many evenings in front of the TV with my grandma watching "Mainz bleibt Mainz wie es singt und lacht" (Mainz remains Mainz as it sings and laughs) seem to have left deep traces in my brain.
Anyway, I've been infected with the carnival virus for a few years now. Even bought a costume last year and went - as a shower. It was very entertaining and definitely created conversation. However, because it's hard to top that, I'm retreating to my usual costume - the policewoman - in 2018. Finally back to handing out parking tickets and being allowed to put nippy drivers like me in our place :-) Höhö..so I picture it!
Muffle simply celebrate anti-Mardi Gras
Who detests Mardi Gras, simply celebrates an anti-Mardi Gras party. Motto: Good-mood forbidden, doze with bad songs of the 80s and cheap Lambrusco becher. No laughing either, of course. Instead, everyone scribbles two things on a piece of paper, which they would immediately improve in Frankfurt, if the anti-jesters could steal the key of the city from the mayor on carnival Saturday.
What would be written on your piece of paper? Mine? I would make a miracle happen and finally make subways and commuter trains run cheaply for everyone, all the time, everywhere. I would have all the houses in the city painted in a different colour every year. In 2018, ultraviolet is the color of the year. That's a good start. That would exhaust my anti-Carnival party note, so we'd have to move on to drinking Lambrusco.
In Klaa Paris, even Brazilians get jealous
Whoever is laughing now, or has no understanding of colorful houses at all, shouldn't make the pilgrimage to Heddernheim for Carnival either. Why there? Because in the village-like district, called "Klaa Paris", the hut burns on carnival Tuesday. Not in the city centre, but in Heddernheim lies the centre of the celebrations, which would even make Brazilians pale. Parade, a Golden Laughing Rose and sessions until the bitter end on Ash Wednesday with around 100,000 visitors. Is that nothing? <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de ffm-aktuell s ugc klaa-paris-hat-jetzt-auch-ein-fastnachtsmuseum.html _blank>You can even find a dedicated Fastnacht museum in Heddernheim.
You wonder what a "Golden Lachröschen" is? I had to smile at the name. The wife of the local police chief receives the medal for her "positive charisma" - the only medal, by the way, that is awarded by the Klaa Paris community to ladies "who distinguish themselves by their positive charisma, their hearty, golden laughter and constant friendliness and love for the tradition of the Klaa Paris carnival."
I guess, for that the medal bearer will put on a good show at the parade. By the way, the parade starts at 2.31 p.m. in the Roman town, which is easily recognizable by its pink houses!
Costume ideas from the wild bull to the Instagram bunny
So, celebrating carnival is not that stupid, it's actually pretty smart. If I have zero to say at work, my students once again do not listen to me at all in the evening (happens rarely, but is supposed to happen), then I can once really wallow in authority - see above for the purpose of costume choice. Such a cap from the guard makes a difference. On that note, however you spend the next two weeks - may the force be with you! <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de insidefrankfurt s shopping helau-die-narren-sind-los-fuenf-kostuemideen-nach-beruehmten-frankfurtern.html _blank>If you're still looking for a costume idea, perhaps the "Wild Bull" is an idea for you?
