Discovering enchanted places - Of mills, streams and wells

Why wander off into the distance when Frankfurt is still full of adventurous places waiting to be discovered? Why crowd around the pool with others when there are plenty of shady spots around Frankfurt, some of them quite unknown, with rippling water? Want to get away from it all? Just get out of the city or relax for a few hours? That's no problem in (and around) Frankfurt. And the good thing about it? It doesn't cost anything!

So today I want to share with you one of my favorite tips to explore, relax and unwind:

The exciting trip tip for hiking, biking, jogging, exploring, refreshing

The other day I discovered a place that should definitely not be missing on the list. If you love hiking, walking, doing something with kids and exploring, just love jogging or biking and letting your dog swim - this destination is a true all-rounder for all needs. And enchanted, lush green and refreshing to boot.

We're talking about a small stretch in the Taunus mountains. Above Oberursel, to be exact. That's where the little stream, the Urselbach, flows. Over a length of about eighteen kilometers, the Ursel ripples out of the Hochtaunus to the campsite in Heddernheim, where it flows into the Nidda. Maybe it flows right by one of you and you've already encountered the Urselbach?

Above Oberursel, it's a friendly body of water, usually just barely covering your feet, now and then ankle-deep again. The banks are easily reached from the hiking trail. Most beautiful is the dense, lush greenery along the way, the mossy soil, the weathered stones that make the area seem like an enchanted patch in the middle of nowhere.

Fresh water in Oberursel

Although the Ursel is just a stream, it has always been important to the town of Oberusel. Due to the numerous mills on the Urselbach, jobs were created, the trade of clothiers, oil and grinding mills flourished. The stream still supplies the inhabitants with water today, and the quality is checked regularly. The people of Oberursel love "their" brook and their wells even more. The annual festival testifies to this.

At one time, 42 mills stood along the entire Urselbach and used its water power. Relics of these mills can still be found in the Frankfurt city area.

The city offers numerous mill hiking trails, for example to the Spinnerei Hohe Mark. From there the river is called Urselback, below the Großer Feldberg it is still the Haidtränkbach. And absolutely also pay attention to the Celtic symbol! Because finds from smaller settlements on the hills "Altenhöfe" and "Goldgrube" on both sides of the Urselbach valley date back to the 5th and 3rd centuries BC.

Have you ever visited the Ursel? What other enchanted places can you recommend?
