There may be people - are you one of them? - who regularly sort out their closet in a disciplined way and even create Excel lists for it. Don't ask! I've spotted them on blogs. I am definitely not one of them. But sooner or later the 30 year old jacket has to go. The bad buy from the last row may also go.
The whole topic of throwing away is a huge thing. We find order advisers in the net at all corners and ends. But that's not supposed to be my topic today.
No, today it's about the fact that I looked around in Frankfurt for all those who want to give away clothes sustainably.
· I find Clothes swap parties useful. Well, the gentlemen, for their part, could just host whiskey tastings and nonchalantly lay out some socks and ties..to you the idea may seem silly. But new things always seem a little weird at first.
What was the idea of the swap again? A clothes swap is quite easy to organize privately. It should be clarified in advance how many pieces each guest is allowed to bring (maximum five in my group), where the things can be laid out (on the dining table, the desk, etc.?) and what happens to the leftover pieces!
It is also advisable to have clothes racks and hangers ready and to convert a corner into a dressing room. We just put the full clothes rack diagonally in front of the sofa and pulled the living room window shut.
While the group was manageable at first, it is steadily growing by word of mouth, and the standard is rising: Appetizers! Champagne! Fun! At some point we have to start renting the Saalbau Bornheim ;-) But the idea behind it is obvious: To give good clothes into good hands. The best thing I ever "traded"? A pair of wax-soft leather gloves in purple!
Of course, the internet with its many swapmeets opens up countless possibilities to swap more than just clothes. Swap meets for second hand, are booming. Does anyone have any experience with them?
· Sale platforms. Whether books or clothes, course platforms are always a good idea. The financial aspect cannot be dismissed as an advantage. The disadvantage? Selling yourself costs time and nerves. To let sell costs commission.
I learned to appreciate a small shop in the old town of Oberursel. My friend had recommended it to me. There the sales work satisfactorily.
· clothes closets. One idea that makes my social heart beat faster is found in the Griesheim district, among others. The clothing store there offers inexpensive fashion for those in need.
It reminds me a bit of an English project where female long-term unemployed find styling tips and clothes for a job interview that they could not afford under normal circumstances. Meghan Markle, the newest member of the English royal family is helping the idea gain publicity.
· Upcycling - when cardboard becomes a backpack. I have a backpack that is made entirely from recycled material. All sorts of things can be reprocessed, after all. Upcycling products can be found at places like the Newfoundland. Secondhand department store. Dor about being able to make other people happy with my donation (clothes, hi-fi, whatever) really pleases me.
How do you recycle clothes and items you no longer need? Where else could I take them?
