Film fans will be especially excited on Sunday when the envelopes rustle in Los Angeles. Everyone will be holding their breath as it's once again "And the winner is." If you can't get away from film and acting after such a night, I'll tell you today how you can act or get extra roles in Frankfurt.
How do I become an extra for film, TV and theatre?
In Frankfurt I have been acting semi-professionally myself for many years and am currently taking a creative break. My desire for the boards that mean the world was triggered by a theatre course at the Volkshochschule, which also offered the opportunity for further workshops. Bodywork, dance and working on a role were important. At the same time, I got a part in a casting - yes, even amateurs have to undergo the ordeal of casting and fear for roles - at the Frankfurt English Speaking Theatre e.V. (FEST). (FEST). NOT to be confused with the professional English Theater at the Gallusanlage.
So hooked, I was determined to get better at acting and took a two-year course with Patricia Leinhos, who herself trained in New York. If you are interested in an extra role, for example in the ARD's Tatort, it's best to register with the Hessischer Rundfunk. Be sure to send along a portrait and full body photo. I have already experienced the most amazing things at HR: of course it was exciting to shoot with talented actors like Claudia Michelsen in the club "Velvet" in sweltering heat in summer without air conditioning. In the movie "Sprinter" I was in a dance scene with a nice fellow actor. Oh, before I forget: The financial allowance is rather not worth mentioning.
Ready for the night shoot?
Whoever spends the night on a night shoot should REALLY feel like it. Even at four in the morning. Because "night shoot" literally means such. The team works through the night until dawn. During the shooting of the ARD film "Alaska Johanson" I was finally able to go home at six o'clock on Saturday morning after more than 14 hours on the set, so at least I could already bring the rolls for breakfast. The day had started on Friday afternoon. The shoot took place in a beautiful villa in Bad Homburg with Alina Levshin. Besides the experience of not accepting night shoots anymore, the role as an extra taught me respect for the work of the professional actors and crew, who really performed just as concentrated and professional at 4 o'clock in the morning as they did at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Fascinating observation: everyone has their job on a set, which means that an assistant director is responsible for everything that supports the director's work. They don't bother the director with that. That's not arrogance, but a sensible distribution of tasks so that everything runs smoothly and, with so many people, the responsible contact persons are known.
An extra role also requires: being able to wait patiently, ready made up and dressed in funny clothes. Not to make a sound on the set and not to behave like a fan and take pictures of the well-known actors. Whereas Heike Makatsch only played her part anyway and immediately disappeared behind the scenes again, while I filled the rows in a hall in the audience with tons of other extras.
Suffering ability doesn't hurt when suddenly make-up artists comb the hair according to the director's wishes in a way I would never wear it myself in my life. Or the costume designer arrives with trousers and jackets that give you the creeps. That's when it's all about getting into the clothes. So I played a well-situated lady with a pearl necklace at the airport, a doctor in a crime scene (the classic: was only to be seen from behind in the pictureJ) as well as a Polish traveller. And just in the film with Mrs. Makatsch at an award ceremony the audience. You can also say, I was the third hairstyle from the top right in the audience...
Ach, who can remember bad text: Don't worry. Extras don't speak. They just stand or walk around when instructed. No Oscars for that, unfortunately, but fun all the same.
