"What do kosher gummy bears taste like?" Licking, diving, touching, experiencing - when children go to museums, they should and want to experience as much as possible sensually, otherwise they get bored quickly.
Therefore, I absolutely have to share something with you today that I experienced last week in Frankfurt that was incredibly great and that I thought no child should miss if possible! Especially because the Easter holidays are just around the corner. Because discovering thick underground walls, doing puzzles about your own city, or playing out stories with wooden turntables - that's only possible at the Jewish Museum. There, where the ruins of the exciting Judengasse with its fascinating people and stories still stand upright under a floor of glass, children learn how it was to live in the 300-year-old houses.
Reason enough for me to test our most beautiful museums once on their children's program.
· MUSEUM JUDENGASSE: At the children's workshops, questions about Judaism are answered in a playful and diverse way, Jewish life and culture are experienced with all senses. But the participants can do more than just bake a matzah, write a scroll in Hebrew or build a leaf hut. A look at other religions and cultures is also an important part of the program. For example, the workshop "Mahlzeit!" is dedicated to the different dietary rules in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, while another, entitled "Hut ab!", explores the different meanings of headgear in a wide variety of contexts.
· Child-friendly programs can also be found in one of the city's most popular houses: the Städel. On April 16, for example, the house invites families with their children to a "Search - Hidden in the Picture". Many of the pictures in the Städel Museum are full of fascinating details that you only notice when you look closely. Together, families and their children will embark on an exciting tour of discovery through the museum's collection. Admission to the Städel Museum is free for children under 12.
· DAM: Children will have plenty to get stuck into at the German Architecture Museum's Lego construction site during the summer holidays. For a contribution towards costs of around three euros, architects of the future can give free rein to their imagination. The DAM organises themed competitions and regularly awards prizes for the best ideas.
· Projects, parties, workshops: the kinder museum frankfurt aims to convey hands-on knowledge and enable experimentation with its exhibitions specially designed for young people. Children up to their 18th birthday receive free admission.
