Second-Hand shops in Rhein-Main - 3 tips

Whether you are sorting out fashion sins to earn money second-hand or you need a serious tie - the business with second-hand goods is booming. No wonder. Because reuse instead of throwing away or buying new fits the zeitgeist.

And so it is not surprising that the industry has long outgrown its infancy and shed its dusty image.

Meanwhile, fancy shops with shelves full of designer goods can be found next to the well-known junk shops. And so second-hand has been able to attract more and more customers in recent years. Why I, too, have always bought second-hand?

A sustainable lifestyle is possible

One incentive, of course, is the good price-performance ratio. Where can you get a good pair of no name jeans for five to seven euros? But of course, I've always enjoyed looking for something original, which brings a refreshingly different touch to the wardrobe - away from the mainstream spread by the big fashion chains. Third, let's not forget that secondhand no longer contains harsh chemicals.

So a trip to the thrift store is part of an increasingly sustainable lifestyle these days.

In our favorite city Frankfurt you can find an excellent selection of second-hand boutiques.

Today I'm not only going to introduce you to my three favorites in the blog. You'll also find tips if you want to sell clothes yourself and are simply considering swapping them with others.

Having raging clothing swap parties

Have you heard of clothing swap parties? It's the big thing. Swapping clothes instead of buying new is the name of the game here. Works for both men and women ;-)

The idea of swapping has now reached the clothing market.

Two times a year I meet up with female friends and acquaintances, we spread clothes over tables and benches, try on and stuff what one has over looked into her own bag. That way the coming season is saved. Parka, jeans or skirt- all already dusted off. And the party grows and grows by word of mouth.

Secondhand is easy on the wallet and has a lasting effect

I'm more of the practical sort, and I like the idea of buying something fresh in top condition that another woman just doesn't like anymore. How many things does everyone have in their wardrobe that are either never worn or barely worn? It's a good thing, isn't it, if a new owner can then be found for it.

Second Hand Shopping Downtown

In one of my favorite second hand stores, the Aschenputtel, I found a ruffled satin blouse by Boss about a year and a half ago - a true one-of-a-kind by now - so that's vintage then. The shop offers current fashion, many designer labels, whereby the owner carefully selects as I once witnessed during a shopping tour.

There is the smaller store directly at the Kleinmarkthalle, the larger connects to the Neue Kräme at Liebfrauenberg. Trendspotters also get their money's worth here because the owners have their noses to the market. 40 percent of the customers are male, a saleswoman told me.

50:50 with the sellers

At Stefanie Scholz in Oberursel you will find a secondhand shop that also offers china and junk.

Don't let the somewhat unspectacular shop window put you off. There are real treasures hiding inside. The owner Stefanie is a thorough businesswoman who meticulously scrutinizes every piece of clothing. If you want to drop something off, it's best to call ahead to find out if she's in the house to accept clothes. It is advisable to drop off clothing well in advance of the approaching season.

The owner will receive a receipt for the suggested price. If the merchandise hasn't sold after two months, it either goes to the used clothing collection or can be picked up again.

The store and owner each split the sale price 50/50. Tip: When looking at the price, keep in mind that it is used merchandise. So the bulk does the business, not the individual item.

Nice to browse

Escatira, is nice to browse. The selection of new and second hand is exciting and there are some really nice unique pieces to be discovered. Once I discovered so pink winter boots, another time a chic vest from a designer label.

Do you buy secondhand? What shops can you recommend for children's clothes as well?
