What drives you up the wall?

What drives you up the wall?
What drives you up the wall?
What drives you up the wall?

It is not known exactly where the expression "that drives me up the wall" comes from. Supposedly, it used to be common in Oceania for people to get the heck out of a palm tree if everything around them got on their nerves too much. That doesn't have to be true, but it would be a delightful alternative to the hassle of the office or the traffic jam on the avenue, wouldn't it? Instead of ranting about God and the world like they do in London's Hyde Park Corner, everyone could have a good laugh, perched on their own palms, at the Nice on Untermainkai.

Where did I get that idea? Here are five things that have really pissed me off in the city this week

· people putting their shod feet on the seats in the subway. No, I don't want street dirt on my pants when I plant myself there next.

· I'd rather leave out the tiresome topic of street traffic here. Because otherwise I wouldn't be able to get off the ground here textually: I used to love cycling through the city. In the meantime, however, I feel rather queasy on the Friedberger Anlage. Okay, well, I do have one nuisance: dear fellow human beings who park at the intersections. No. That's not cool. And in New York, no one dares to do that anymore because of the hefty fines. If you think you can feel like you're in Manhattan by blocking the box for others, you're wrong. More consideration, less palm for all, would be desirable. Especially in the stuffy summer when everyone is more annoyed anyway.

· The street layout has been driving me nuts since I've lived here. One wrong turn and *zack* the road layout forces me to drive straight for ages before the next turning opportunity appears. Example? At Baseler Platz in the direction of Kennedyallee I have to gondola almost all the way to Sachsenhausen. That's no fun in rush hour traffic, as I'm sure you know yourself.

· The thing with the dog. Having a dog myself since the beginning of the year, there really is the famous little bag in every pocket now. But sometimes the dog puts a spoke in my wheel and then the bags are used up and I start to sweat. So you can imagine how grateful I am as a dog owner about the public bag dispensers, but which the city has now unfortunately drastically reduced.

· Littering: Yay, <link http: www.frankfurt.de sixcms _blank>the city is trying to deal with careless litterers of green spaces with three new spots. The saying my grandma knew is supposed to fix it this time, too: ‚Dahaam machst´es doch aach net!' Every generation starts again from the beginning with learning how to behave :-) So that it may help..

But for all these small annoyances in everyday life can now the palms nothing. They just blow away unaffected sometimes. Especially at these places:

· The Nizza-Anlagen am Untermainkai, which bear their name since 1865 and are one of the largest public parks north of the Alps, are among <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de insidefrankfurt s shopping ab-in-den-fruehling-fuenf-lieblingsplaetze-am-main.html _blank>my favorite places on the Main.

All's well that ends well: for I was particularly pleased this week by the fellow who found my wallet at Arnsburger Platz and immediately handed it in at the Volkshochschule. I am less well-disposed towards the person who took my wonderful cell phone case, which was also a gift, from the food pantry. By the way, for anyone who lost something, the lost and found office at the <link http: www.frankfurt.de sixcms _blank>Ordnungsamt on Kleyerstrasse is responsible.

But now tell me: What gets you on your nerves in Frankfurt?
