From 15 October 2020, the extraordinary documentary film "The Bear in Me" by Roman Droux, who embarks on a gripping journey together with the well-known bear researcher David Bittner, can be seen in cinemas.
Already on 12.10.2020, the director will be a guest at the Harmonie at 6 pm to present his film. And that's what "The Bear in Me" is about:
At the far end of Alaska, a dream comes true for well-traveled filmmaker Roman Droux. He delves into the world of that mythical animal that has fascinated him since childhood and accompanied him to sleep. The well-known bear researcher David Bittner takes him to the land of the bears. Into perhaps the last wilderness of North America. A coastal mountain range surrounded by endless, deserted beaches. A world where grizzly bears call the shots, and no trace of human civilization can be found.
Here the two adventurers set out to find a male and a young female bear with whom David Bittner has formed a close relationship: his friend Baloo and his great love Luna.
The first Arctic sunbeams of the dawning summer bring the bears to life. They come down from their dens to the lush coastal meadows to search for salmon in the crystal clear torrents and on the beaches. Soon the two men are surrounded by countless wild animals, right in the middle of the bears' world. They experience the caring of a starving mother bear, exhausted, trying to get her cubs through. Witness bloody battles of giant male bears, and the tragedy of the defenseless bear cubs' struggle for survival. The fable world turns out to be a momentum of beauty and danger.
Roman Droux brings images of unique closeness and emotion to the big screen. A vivid nature film for the whole family, far from superficial attempts at explanation but raising questions. It shows that we can never fully explain the magic of nature, but are allowed to experience it first-hand here.
Since childhood, Roman Droux has been fascinated by these wonderful creatures, as has bear researcher David Bittner. Already in 2011 the two bear friends worked together, at that time their first joint film was made: "Among Bears - Eye in Eye with Wild Grizzlies in Alaska". For THE BEAR IN ME they have teamed up again and spent an entire summer in the wilderness of Alaska.
The result is an adventure told in breathtaking images that gives the audience a spectacular insight into the world of bears and reveals a last piece of pristine nature.
The Bear in Me celebrated its German premiere at this year's 35th DOK.fest Munich.
