"When I need sax, I call Candy", Prince once said. If that's not a top-notch recommendation for the Dutch jazz saxophonist.
Since she was seven years old, Candy Dulfer has been playing the saxophone. Her role models: Father Hans Dulfer, Sonny Rollins and David Sanborn. A first record followed at eleven and her first own band, Funky Stuff, at 14. Music and the saxophone, that's her life - and where so much passion and talent meet, success is bound to follow.
The Dutch jazz saxophonist's big breakthrough came at the end of the 1980s with the single "Lily Was Here" (1989) from the soundtrack to the film of the same name, which she recorded together with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics. 1990 also saw the release of the album "Graffiti Bridge", on which she is featured as Prince's accompanist, and Dulfer's own album "Saxuality", which sold over a million copies worldwide and earned her a nomination for "Best Pop Album Instrumental" at the Grammy Awards. She has been on stage with all the big names and has pretty much toured all over the world. With a band that rivals her frontwoman in virtuosity, Candy Dulfer creates a unique blend of dance, dubstep, funk and house live - and has her audience dancing in no time.
