They are called Grave Digger, Maximum Destruction and Scooby-Doo, they are powered by 1,500 horsepower engines, have two-meter tires and fly through the air - Monster Trucks. On 8 October, hr3 will bring the spectacle from America to a German stadium for the first time, to the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt.
In the USA, Monster Jam has long enjoyed cult status. Nearly four million motorsport-loving fans flock to the more than 350 shows every year - mainly families. "We are also expecting a big family party on October 8," says morning show host Tobi Kämmerer of hr3.
7,500 tons of sand
With the help of 100,000 square meters of foil and a good 7,500 tons of sand and earth, the Eintrachtstadion will be transformed into a course for the monster trucks. First of all the trucks will compete against each other in the classic racing mode, whereby there will be some spectacular jumps - after all, 20 metres is a modest distance with so much horsepower under the bonnet. Particularly action-packed is the subsequent freestyle freestyle. The trucks, which can weigh up to four tons, will perform a "wheelie", for example - with the monster truck riding on its rear wheels.
