Burrito Band revives old tradition

Burrito Band revives old tradition

Category: More

Campaign "Burrito Sospeso" launched in Frankfurt

Together with Caritas Frankfurt, the Burrito Bande has developed the campaign "Burrito Sospeso". Customers buy two burritos - one for themselves and one Sospeso. The sum of the donated burritos is doubled by the gang at the end of the month and given out to the needy on one evening.

The idea originally comes from Italy, from a time before the First World War. Those who had a little money in their pockets paid not only for their own coffee, but also for another. If a guest came in who didn't have money for a coffee himself and asked for a caffè sospeso ("uplifted one"), the barman would pour it out.

This old tradition has been modified somewhat by system restaurateurs Jan Dinter and Oliver Meiser, who have now brought it back to life. In Frankfurt and the surrounding area, burrito connoisseurs at the food trucks can pay for another one as a "sospeso" in addition to their own burrito. "We add another one on top of every donated burrito, so that one Sospeso can feed two people in need at once," says Dinter. After a four-week donation period, the burritos will be distributed one evening at Caritas' daytime shelters for people in need of housing.

If the "Sospeso" experiment succeeds, the Burrito Gang plans to collect donations for another month or two between now and summer. Basically, the "Burrito Sospeso" project will always be done in the winter months in the future. "We were excited about the Sospeso custom from the beginning. We have now made a start and hope, of course, that restaurateurs will find who join us," says Meiser.

The concept of the Burrito Gang

The new restaurateurs Jan Dinter and Oliver Meiser orientate themselves with their concept on the models from the USA and Great Britain. Here, food trucks primarily offer freshly prepared high-quality products that are nevertheless affordable. At Burrito Bande, fast food meets slow food, so-called SlowFastFood: This results in a variety of tastes that makes conscious eating on the go possible. Whether sauces, salsa or guacamole - all ingredients for the "Bande burritos" are homemade. So, for example, is the beef, which is gently braised at low temperature for over 24 hours. Artificial additives such as flavour enhancers, aromas or preservatives are consistently avoided. Whether vegetarian, vegan or meat lover - there is something for every taste.

About Burrito Bande

Burrito Bande stands for mobile food trucks and was founded in mid-2013 in Frankfurt by Jan Dinter and Oliver Meiser. The Burrito Bande stands for fresh burritos, homemade from select ingredients and with a lot of passion and time. According to their motto "Join the Taste Revolution" they want to redefine fast food as "mobile SlowFastFood" in Germany. Meanwhile, the gang is represented in the Rhine-Main area with three trucks and a pop-up store in Frankfurt's main train station.
