For a long time, the small shop at Oeder Weg 23 was home to a magazine kiosk. When the rent was drastically increased, the couple who ran the shop for many years unfortunately had to give up the business. The successor did not last long either, despite a new focus with the kiosk concept. But now a new tenant is trying his hand at a completely different concept: where you could previously buy magazines or lottery tickets and cigarettes, there are now delicious TexMex specialties at CHICHILAS.
The offerings range from small appetizers like nachos or red jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese to salads, stuffed tacos with California sauce, burritos or chimichangas to enchiladas or specials like chili con carne and spicy chicken pieces with mango dip and salsa. There are two things that immediately stand out in a positive way upon entering the TexMex store. First, there's the very warm welcome, which continues when ordering and - if needed - when giving advice. And also the interior is very inviting. The best possible was made out of the little space that was available here. In small cosy niches you can enjoy the food on the spot. But of course, all the dishes are also available to take away.
The portions are decent and represent good value for money. The ingredients taste fresh and the sauces offered to it pleasantly spicy. Here and there is still missing something "Feuer", there is still room for improvement. But the whole thing is still delicious - and you get full in any case. As a filling there is a choice between chicken and beef, as well as vegetarian and vegan versions. Barbacoa, very tender cooked meat in a spicy sauce, can also be chosen. Of course, no star cuisine should be expected here. But if you are looking for fast and good TexMex cuisine, you will be well served here in the truest sense of the word. After Thai food, Indian street food or burgers a welcome addition to the culinary offer on the Oeder Weg, which is certainly used by the people working here in the lunch break as well as by the guests of the nearby CineStar Metropolis or of course by the residents.
