Since their youth, Daniele Marino and Hernando Ospina have been good friends and have also been working together for some time, founding a joint event agency in Frankfurt in 2017. In their work, Marino and Ospina have also organized street food festivals throughout Germany, which has allowed them to build a large network of contacts with high-quality street food vendors. This gave the friends an idea: how about giving these restaurateurs a stage not only at the festivals, but setting up a permanent place where they can present their creations?
Thus the idea for "Guck Mal Wer Da Kocht" was born, which has now opened in Frankfurt's city centre. As guys from Frankfurt, it was clear from the start for the founders of this unusual restaurant that they definitely wanted to implement their exciting project in the Main metropolis. After an intensive search, a location was found in Meisengasse, right next to the Börsenparkhaus, that met the requirements needed to implement the concept: Space for an open kitchen on the one hand and a separate area for cooking classes or private events on the other.
The restaurant's two levels can accommodate up to 80 guests. The interior is kept in a simple urban style and radiates a pleasant warmth and cosiness through many lovingly implemented details. On the ground floor, guests have the opportunity - true to the name of the location - to experience the preparation of their food up close. Visually, this is already convincing. But what is the culinary concept with which Daniele Marino and Hernando Ospina want to shake up the city's gastronomy scene?
Quite simple really: while the name, equipment and interior always remain the same, the menu and the team at the stove and counter at "Guck Mal Wer Da Kocht" change completely every two to four weeks. Experienced restaurateurs who want to present their offerings to the Frankfurt public are offered a stage here, as are newcomers who want to try their hand at running a restaurant for the first time. All applicants will, of course, be put through their paces by Marino and Ospina before they are allowed to bring their street food delicacies to the plates in Meisengasse for a limited time.
For the guests, this means that they can always experience something new here and, over time, take a culinary journey around the world. It starts with refined delicacies from Peru, which are followed by tasty visits to the Caribbean, Hawaii or Offenbach. Yes, versatility is writ large here in every respect. Based on the samples we were allowed to taste at a press event, we can confirm that the plan of the two operators to offer guests a kind of constantly varying best of international street food cuisine has succeeded.
In "Guck Mal wer Da Kocht" guests should not come here to always order the same favorite dish, but to be surprised again and again. But it should also become a place where hobby cooks can get new ideas at the cooking classes that take place every Wednesday or where private parties, company events or other events like wine tastings can take place in a pleasant atmosphere.
