Gokio Bros - A Culinary Enrichment for the Nordend

Gokio Bros - A Culinary Enrichment for the Nordend

Category: Restaurants

The Oeder Weg is becoming more and more culinary diverse and interesting. Besides Falaffel, Indian and Vietnamese cuisine, a beer manufactory, burgers, pizza or Tex Mex, Korean delicacies now enrich the street. However, Ho-Seong Kim does not offer traditional Korean dishes, as he has been serving them together with his parents for about seven years at Sonamu, which is not without reason considered one of the best country cuisines in the city. In the new, small shop on Oeder Weg, he has specialised entirely in fusion food from Korea: fried chicken! Most people will probably think of the fast food product of a large US chain. And indeed, the spread of the American fast food company to Korea was decisive for the creation of a very own, local variant, which Ho-Seong Kim has now brought to Germany.

And already the loving way of arranging makes it clear that these chicken dishes should not be regarded as fast food - even if they are only served on a tray. But it's not just the eye that's pleased here, because the taste here is also far superior to that of fast food restaurants specialising in fried chicken. This starts with the breading, whose recipe has been carefully worked out and which is baked in a special deep fryer. It then continues with the tender meat, which comes from free-range chickens in the Rhön region, and finally culminates in the delicious sauces, which come in a variety of flavors with varying degrees of spiciness.

In addition to the fried chicken on the bone, there are also tender chicken and chicken sandwiches. Side dishes include lattice fries or, as is common in Korea, sour pickled vegetables. A veggie burger with radish and cauliflower is also on the menu, which also offers crispy waffles with homemade sorbet. And when it comes to drinks, the focus is also on homemade lemonades or craft beer.

During our visit, there was actually only one "Manko": The sauces we chose for our dishes - a pleasantly spicy sweet and sour sauce for fried chicken and a mild yogurt-based sauce for tender chicken - were so delicious that there could have been a bit more of them. Otherwise, our impression was positive all around. The audience, which had filled the small dining room to the last seat on this Sunday noon, was mixed and after a short questioning of our seat neighbors and a look at the faces of the other guests, we can assure that our impression was also shared by the rest of those present. A special praise was given to the chicken sandwiches, which we would like to pass on at this point.

So if you want to taste how delicious and surprising fried chicken can taste, you should definitely check out Gokio Bros.
