There are locations where you can enjoy not only delicious food or good drinks, but also a very special view. The Oosten on the banks of the Main near the Wesel shipyard is just such a place. The architecture of the Oosten itself is a real eye-catcher. Whether on the terraces, in the restaurant itself, at the bar or in the lounge, as a guest you actually have a fantastic view of the skyline, the Main or the ECB everywhere. This view is simply beautiful and fascinating in any weather and at any time of day. But especially when the sun sinks behind the banks and office towers of the city, then the view from the Oosten is really priceless. Add to that a cool drink in your hand and something delicious on your plate and your end of the day is perfect.
Of course, a beautiful setting isn't everything. But the Bauhaus-style building can also convince in the gastronomic area. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, a piece of cake with your afternoon coffee or a relaxed end to the day, you'll always find just the right thing for a small or large appetite. The offer is manageable, but completely sufficient. The quality is good and there is hardly any reason to complain. However, one has to be prepared for a little higher prices, as here one simply pays for the extraordinary location. However, especially at breakfast and cake the portions are also decent, so that the price-performance ratio is then again right.
What you also have to be prepared for are longer waiting times. If there is a lot of business, it can happen that it takes a while until the waitress or the order comes to the table. Thus, one should definitely bring some time and patience to the Oosten, especially at peak times. The service was friendly and attentive during our visits, but it must also be said for the sake of honesty that there were always some critical voices here.
In the main dishes, the Frankfurt influence always shines through a little. So you can find dishes on the menu that are served with green sauce or with Handkäs. All in all, the culinary offer pleases with a good mixture of down-to-earthness and slightly upscale cuisine. The wine selection is good and also the rest of the drink menu can convince. So, whether for breakfast, just for a drink or for an enjoyable meal - a visit to Oosten is recommended in any case!
