It all started with a convivial men's evening, where the passionate hobby chef Alexander Kirschniok invited the brothers Ilias, Jalalle and Oualid Chahboune to Poké-eating together. It quickly became clear to the friends: Frankfurt needs Poké! The healthy food trend, which spilled over from Hawaii to New York a few years ago and has now also conquered the European metropolises, is just perfect for a cosmopolitan city like Frankfurt. Alexander Kirschniok and Ilias Chahboune spent two months researching on location in Hawaii. This was followed by further months of travelling to New York or even London, where the most diverse Poké variants were tested. The perfect inspiration to introduce the colourful world of Poké Bowls to the people of Frankfurt in their own shop.
Together with Pablo and Wlassios Kordonias, the co-founders of City Beach and City Alm on the roof of the Konstablerwache multi-storey car park, the Chahaboune brothers and Alexander Kirschniok have now brought a little piece of Hawaii to Hanauer Landstraße. And so then also immediately when entering "Kahuna Poké Bros" stress and hustle and bustle remain outside. So that also the order remains as relaxed as possible, here on a very simple, time-saving system is set: Order slips await guests at the entrance. A glance at the large blackboard gives a good overview of the signature bowls or the individual ingredients from which one can put together one's own individual bowl. The completed order form is then handed in at the counter, where the bowl is then freshly prepared. If you have any questions or would like a recommendation, the team will of course be happy to help and advise.
For Pokénewbies, choosing one of the six Signature Bowls is recommended. During our visit, we got to try three of them. Our favorite was the Gangnam Style Poké with tender beef bulgogi, red onion and soy sprouts. Topping for this is kimchi, edamame, with roasted garlic, roasted onion and pomegranate added as a "crunchy" addition, and Sriracha mayo as a sauce. The flavor of the marinated meat blends perfectly with the sweet and spicy elements. The intensity of flavor also shows that great emphasis was placed here not only on the freshness of the ingredients, but also on their quality. It took some time to find the right suppliers for the sometimes quite exotic ingredients. But the intensive research absolutely paid off!
Also the vegan Mana Poké (tofu, edamame, spring onion, red onion, with mango salsa and beetroot salad as topping) could convince us as well as the Traditional Ahi Poké (tuna, spring onion, red onion, macadamia, coriander with wakame, mango salsa as topping). Refreshing, intense, not too powerful but still filling - and just damn delicious! Those who prefer to put together their own Poké have the choice between different side dishes (rice, quinoa or salad), the various main ingredients (fish, tofu, beef or chicken) and lots of toppings (for example seaweed, sesame, or avocado). So it is guaranteed that here really everyone gets the right bowl for the individual taste served.
The day begins at the "Kahuna Poké Bros" but not with the lunch break, but with breakfast. And for this, in addition to fine coffee and other drinks, porridge and delicious smoothie bowls are offered. Especially recommended here is the Açaí Bowl, which tastes very refreshing, but not too sweet. Toppings here include a variety of fruits, as well as chia seeds, honey or sliced almonds. The premium toppings are really special: here, flower pollen, cacao nibs or goji berries are available to refine the bowl.
Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, whether for relaxed enjoyment on the spot or rather for a quick to-go, one thing is always the same: the great taste and the warm and relaxed atmosphere. No 08/15 offer, but "Your Bowl of Happiness". Absolutely recommendable!
