Literary Dinner at Ojo de Agua

Category: More

Prince Asfa Wossen Asserate reads from his works

Prince Asfa Wossen Asserate is known to a wide readership for his first book "Manieren" published by the "Other Library", with which he wrote a stimulating, amusing and literarily sophisticated cultural history of manners. Awarded the Chamisso Prize in 2003, his Manners has become an astonishing global success. He has meanwhile written his insightful memoirs, taken on Baron von Knigge, and also written a knowledgeable biography of his great-uncle Haile Selassie, the last Ethiopian emperor.

The Ethiopian prince, who studied at Tübingen in the 1960s, has written about different sides of German life with other publications in recent years: his ravishing essayistic notes Draußen nur Kännchen were a great success, and his Deutsche Tugenden has enhanced his fame as a witty storyteller and stylist, showing that virtue and vice are sometimes only a step apart.

In a selection from his work, he reads pointedly about drunkenness, organic Germans and filter coffee. With Rasselas he runs a social coffee project in Ethiopia, he is also a business consultant in addition to being a writer. You can call him a romantic of the German and a citizen of the world. In the reading, the Frankfurt man of letters is particularly amusing and stimulating. His performance is embedded in a three-course menu of the well-known Frankfurt restaurant Ojo de Agua, which is run by the electro music legend Dieter Meier. The special feature of this dinner is that the beef from his South American ranch is cooked in special ovens. The atmospheric space seats 40 guests, so early reservations are recommended.

Date: Wednesday, November 18, 7:30 p.m.
