Frankfurt, Summer 2016: For over two years, the approximately 500sqm terrace and the adjacent building at Opernplatz 2 lay fallow. Previously, the KuBu had offered here for almost five years about 380 guests space, before it had to close at the end of 2013. But now the place has been revived by Frankfurt DJ and restaurateur Julian Smith. Before the building, which is owned by the Allianz Group, is demolished, six street food stalls will be offering culinary delights from around the world until 30 September 2016 every day from 12 noon. There are delicious Pulled Pork Sandwiches from SCHMITZ, Surf `n` Turf from MAIN FOOD, tasty Curry Bowls from EatDori or refreshing ice cream from BIZZI ICE. There are Arancine filled with spinach and mozzarella or with beef ragout and also French Soccas from Mancini. Plus a selection of delicious wines, homemade lemonade and other drinks. So there really is something for every taste.
The first weeks were rainy, so that this small street food market could not really develop its charm. But if now the sun hopefully shines a little more often, the place is guaranteed to fill up quickly, not only during lunch break and after work. Because the location is really wonderful. On the one hand, the square is located at a green area and surrounded by trees. On the other hand, the shiny skyscraper facades on one side and the Alte Oper on the other side provide a very special ambience. The fact that there are only beer benches as seating, does not necessarily ensure relaxed coziness, but promotes sociability.
