The unforgettable Georg Kreisler sang the song "Bidla Buh", a very whimsical and morbid declaration of love that might dissuade many a beloved from a romantic dinner a deux at the eponymous restaurant in downtown Frankfurt. But she would be missing out on so much!
Bidlabu is located in a narrow alley that virtually forms the quiet zone between Goethestrasse and "Fressgass´" in Frankfurt. As a local, you'll locate there the wonderful Jazzkeller and a bodega bar that has catapulted entire generations of students into sangria nirvana. Restaurants in this area tend to be frequented by bankers and supposed "In People" whose cocky laughs spoil any appetite.
Not so this little gem, which is wonderfully unexciting and invites you with great hospitality to a relaxed evening in a cultivated but not highbrow atmosphere. Already the friendly welcome and the view into the clearly arranged, cosy guest room makes you want more. The audience is of a high standard, unobtrusive and visibly satisfied. The menu is pleasantly reduced, the dishes are creative, carefully composed and can be accompanied by an excellent selection of wines. The price level is upmarket, but at a very reasonable level. The friendly, attentive service always makes you feel welcome and the excellent cuisine never fails to delight! It's amazing what can happen in a small show kitchen when an excellent chef gets his hands on top products! Chapeau!
As a farewell, there is a small digestif shot on the house and you stroll happily and contentedly towards the Jazzkeller, where around 22.00h already the best mood prevails. This is our beautiful Frankfurt in the evening!
A look at the website of Bidlabu is always worthwhile! The restaurant regularly offers very nice theme nights.
