Update: Jambo Streetfood in Töngesgasse is unfortunately already history again! But you can still enjoy the delicious food at Jambo Bar in the Bahnhofsviertel!
The Jambo Bar in the Bahnhofsviertel has been delighting its guests since the beginning of June 2016 not only with delicious cocktails, but also with delicious Kenyan food. The siblings Faruk Sketty and Thuweba Anthes invite you to a relaxed end of the day in a cosy urban ambience. Where the two once ran "Livity", there are now over 60 varieties of gin and Swahili street food. And because it goes down so well with the guests, the popular bar has now had an offspring who will focus entirely on the delicious food.
In Töngesgasse, near the Kleinmarkthalle, Jambo Streetfood recently opened. The offer in the small shop is clear, but all the tastier for it. At fair prices, you can get tender lamb in a spicy tomato sauce or shredded chicken in a curry sauce. The beef in white cabbage with steamed onions is also really tasty. Of course, it also goes purely vegetarian with cooked kidney beans in a coconut sauce, refined with African spices. Rice with lentils is generally served as a side dish (also very tasty). But there is also Swahili flatbread, which takes a little longer to prepare. So if you are in a hurry, you should call ahead and order the "chapati". Everything we tried during our visit was very delicious and pleasantly spicy. The service was friendly and gladly answered all questions about the Swahili cuisine. They were also happy to accommodate special requests from other diners.
If you like things laid back, a visit to Jambo Bar is definitely recommended. But if you're looking for a tasty meal beyond bratwurst and burgers in a hurry downtown, you should definitely stop by Jambo Streetfood. A real recommendation!
