The Sardinian restaurant "Nummer 16", opened in 1977, was a real oddity in Frankfurt's restaurant landscape. The décor rather unexciting, maybe even a bit old-fashioned. One looked in vain for a homepage or a Facebook page. But why invest time and money in the maintenance of such advertising measures when the shop was always buzzing anyway? So you had to move together at the tables and sometimes unexpectedly made the acquaintance of other guests. It was never quiet here - and that was exactly what made the restaurant so charming. Why is that? Quite simply because Vincenzo Dessi and his three siblings Rosa, Laura and Tomas, who took over "Number 16" from their parents Luana and Luigi, understood perfectly, as their father and mother once did, that a good restaurant is defined not only by delicious food, but also by hospitality and warmth. And at "Number 16" you always got a lot of that. The hearty, but always with first-class finesse presented Sardinian cuisine, coupled with a homey feeling of endearing security have made the restaurant in the Wiesenstraße a real cult institution.
The regulars, who came not only from Frankfurt, were therefore - as well as the operators of the restaurant, extremely shocked by the news that the "Number 16" had to close its doors at the end of July. Since the owner of the house suddenly demanded double the rent, Vincenzo Dessi and his siblings were forced to take this difficult step - just like their parents 19 years earlier, after they had to leave the original location in Rohrbachstraße for the same reason. But this time the question was: will the siblings succeed in finding a new location or has the end of "Number 16" come after almost forty years? After receiving the bad news, some regulars immediately founded a Facebook group, which was joined by hundreds of like-minded people within a very short time. Never again to enjoy the legendary seafood salad? Never again be allowed to taste the first-class prepared meat dishes with their special seasoning or the delicious pasta creations? Never again to experience the warm friendliness of the owners? No more wine glasses filled to the brim? That's really not possible!
After a period of trepidation, the all-clear soon came: the "Number 16" has found a new home at Löwengasse 27a. And with November finally comes the long-awaited reopening. And one thing becomes clear as soon as you enter the new premises: the address may have changed, but the charm and warmth have remained - as, of course, has the high quality of the cuisine. And so it certainly won't be long before "Nummer 16" is once again filling up with nice regularity - and bidding its guests farewell with a full stomach and a satisfied smile on their face. We are delighted that this cult restaurant lives on in a new location and wish Vincenzo Dessi and his siblings all the best for this next chapter in the history of "Number 16".
