VDP.Stand in the foyer of the Hofburg becomes a visitor magnet
This year's VieVinum attracted just over 15,000 visitors and transformed Vienna's Hofburg into a vibrant place of good wine. Thematically, the focus was on the importance of distinctive origins and vintages as well as the active exchange with winemakers from neighbouring wine countries from East to West. Around 550 exhibitors, the majority of them from Austria, were delighted with the great interest shown by visitors.
Already at the opening ceremony, VieVinum organiser Mag. Alexandra Graski-Hoffmann emphasised: "The stars at VieVinum are the winemakers." The German ambassador in Vienna, Konrad Max Scharinger, praised the 200 VDP.wineries in his speech as the best ambassadors of German wine abroad: "You can rely on the VDP.grape eagle."
The VDP.vintners delegation, who personally presented their excellent wines at VieVinum. included 16 wineries from the Mosel to Baden. Their wine counters in the entrance area of the Vievinum, in the foyer of the Hofburg, were among the most sought-after at the fair from early morning to evening. In addition, the VDP, together with the traditional Austrian wineries, showed in a tasting led by Master of Wine Caro Maurer, which was booked up to the last seat, which style defining wines of origin are produced in their top vineyards. This was also underlined by the site tasting of VDP, ÖTW and STK. Last but not least, Dr. Daniel Deckers (FAZ) reviewed the German wine history in a lecture. As early as in 1910, the vintners of the VDP have been the respected ambassadors of Germany as a wine nation and have significantly influenced the triumphal procession of Riesling, Silvaner & Co. from the best vineyards of the country.
Armin Diel, Weingut Schlossgut Diel on the Nahe and VDP.vice president was very satisfied: "In a wine-proud country like Austria, it is not a matter of course to be received so well. We are happy that we were able to present ourselves so well here as a guest vintner group."
The VDP is the oldest and only national association of top wine estates in the world. 199 Prädikat wineries have self-imposed strict quality standards and benchmarks - from the grape to the cellar. The four-level VDP.classification pyramid adopted in 2012 defines the quality of their wines according to origin: VDP.GUTSWEIN, VDP.ORTSWEIN, VDP.ERSTE LAGE and VDP.GROSSE LAGE. The VDP grape eagle on each bottle capsule is the quality seal. It stands for a terroir-imprinted and artisanal winemaking.
